Touring - Europe east to west?

Hello,

We are planning a big Europe tour and are considering riding east to west based on the best weather for Turkey & Morocco (starting in Istanbul mid May and making our way to Spain - hoping to be in Morocco for Oct &Nov).

The only think holding us back from making this decision is the wind!!

We've heard the wind generally blows west to east in Europe, so we are wondering how much of a factor head-winds would be on our trip if we went east to west? Anyone experienced riding this direction? Was the wind a big issue? Should this be such a big factor in our decision making?

Any info or suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hi,

many persons care on the wind direction - I don't.

If you follow the Mediterrainen Coast I would go from West to East, because with right hand traffic you don't have to cross the street if you want to see the sea.

A prefer the route that I have in my mind and never care about wind - it changes always to head wind;)

Well, to be blunt, we can't make your decision for you. The wind generally blows west to east. If you don't mind headwinds, there you go. Otherwise, do it the other way. Surely you have enough experience to know your tolerance for wind.

Personally, I would try very hard to go west to east. But I live in Denmark, the world's wind factory.

Don't know how it is south of the Alps, but north of them, I wouldn't go east to west.
