BMX - Mongoose frame question

I have a 97 mongoose hooligan and it has these weird chain tensioners that broke. They went in a hole in the front of the dropout plate and it(the dropout) has a sqaure cutout ,half way between the front of the DO and the axle slot, that the hole goes through. The tensioner was a threaded rod that went in this hole, and a big nutt went in the square hole and they tightened the rod against the axle. These are the same thing they use on harley-davidsons but there bigger. Does anyone know were i can find them or what they arwe called?

you think that drop out is weird, i got a 95 mongoose expert and the dropout looks like this

anyway, just throw the mongoose in the trash and get a good bike, unless you can't affrowd it, then sorry dude.

take a saw and saw the drop out off then go buy a mig welder practice welding for a while and then after you get good at welding weld it back together. Note: take the tires off the rubber will ground it too much and it won't work.

My mongoose is 6years old and all ive replced so far is cables, tires and grips. the bearings are a bit worn now but everthing else on the bike is in great shape. i paid 400 for it in 96 and i still ride it.

You can get different types of welder.....Arc, TIG, MIG and probably some others i dont know of. Anyway....Welder works by creating an electric circuit and therefore supplying a certain amount of current to the metal piece you are welding (you choose the amount of current using a switch on the welder), the current melts the metal and allows it to form a very strong metallic bond between the two bits you are welding together when it solidifys again. MIG welding is better for doing jobs with thinner metal, you are less likely to weld a hole into your piece of metal and if your good at it, it will leave a reasonably neat weld.....ALTHOUGH WITHOUT PRACTICE YOU PROBABLY WILL STILL MANAGE TO RUIN YOUR JOB EVEN WITH A MIG WELDER!!!

Have a look at www.screwfix.co.uk they have MIG welders for a reasonable price, or else buy one off ebay or something!

Welding is fun, id give it a go if you had the money, dead handy for fixing loads of stuff!:-)

Sorry, just realised i told you that you melt your bike to form a weld!!! LIES.....LIES.....LIES!!!....You use welding rods, which are rods of metal you melt over the bit you want to weld together!!!

Dont know why i told you that you melt your bike!! Just having a DIM day....(and im not even blonde!)


But...... YOU CAN STILL MELT A HOLE IN YOUR BIKE IF YOU ARENT CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a good welder, I have a cheap mig for sheetmetal and an arc for thick stuff, but thers 2 reasons i dont want to do it 1) i have no way to replace the chrome plating on the frame. 2) i dont have the peoper tools to make a new dropout, and all i need is a dam chain tensioner anyway. Look at the top post, please help me.
