Arai Drum Brakes

We have noticed that when we use our Arai Drum brake on a light setting we get a lot of whistling and humming noises out of it, do we need to have it looked at? The cable sticks also and won't alway release sometimes. My husband figured he could just put some lube on the cable, but what about the noise?

We get the same noise from ours, I have found that removing the glaze on the brake pads will cure it for a short time. But the pads will glaze over again and the noise will return.
