Commuting - That thing is loud

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My new $18 bike horn is LOUD. At least, to me it is!
On squeeze with my right index finger and BEEEEEP! Like a car horn. In fact, it is a car horn! :D
By golly, I'm having an identity crisis!

When I want to make a noise on the bike (something I'm finding increasingly useful in Surfers Paradise), I just adjust my brakes so as to make them squeak. Louder than any horn I've ever heard, cheaper, and best of all, I don't have to move my hands as much in a difficult situation to use it!
Pete: I think you might remember me telling about the guy I met who had a diesel truck air horn mounted on his bike. He had a rubber hose attached to it that ran along the top tube. When he wanted to blast the horn, he had to suck hard on the tube.
It looked absolutely ridiculous, but when he blew the horn, automobile drivers around him would just about jump out of their skin.

I'm still getting used to this horn. A couple of times, I grabbed my handlebars without thinking and HONNNNNNNK! there goes my horn in the parking lot.
I scared myself silly.
I scared myself, but at least I wasn't embarrassed! No, no, no. I just pretended somebody else did it (I have practice on that, I like to eat beans.)
