Great Lakes - Ride Across Indiana

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Does anybody plan on doing it this year? Koffee? Caadman you up for it again?
Nah. I didn't ride it last year, but now that it's in my mind, I wouldn't mind attending, though.
Maybe FX John?

Hey there Random!! and good to hear from you again this new year! hope your's is going well??....Oh yeah I've decided to do RAIN ride this year again, I was hesitant at first, but now I want to break the ride time that I did last year, so I've got to go and do it...I've got my hotel resv. on both ends, so I expect to be there!! You doing it again??
Koffee, you should come and maybe ride some of it, think about it, it'd be good to meet you..
Take care, and you all have a good season in 2004!!
Benjamin
Oh yeah, I’m doing it. I knew as soon as I crossed the finish line last year that I would be doing it again. I also am going to try and better my time. Since I just sorta cruised last year, it shouldn’t be that hard. I am thinking about trying to be in the top hundred though. It would be pretty cool if we could get a group of riders from here to it. With a large enough group, we could even pull some of those who are not as strong.
Come on Koffee, you can train up to it! You get the whole day to do it!
How about if I just meet you all at the finish line with some power snacks?
:)
That ride scares me. And do you have to ride through Gary too? Brrrrrrrr... that's scary!

Hey that's good to hear Random, would you like to maybe get your group together and then maybe you and I and your group can do it??..If you'd like, as we get closer to the ride, maybe you could PM me and I could give you my cell phone number, that's a good way to contact me there for that ride, maybe we could meet at the start line and go from there??..
Koffee, actually that ride does not go thru Gary, it basically follows route 40 across the state, from the Il/In state line, and finishes in richmond on the other end near ohio..Ride goes around Indianopolis, and then almost due east from there..No where near Gary..
Think about it, yeah that'd be cool if you want to meet us at the end, that's cool also, but think about riding it also..
Take care,
Benjamin

Hey Random, I just checked on the rain ride website, and they have the picture of the jersey they are offering this year posted now!, it's sooo cool, I'm really thinking of getting that this year..Have you seen it, if not check it out, you have to click on the word where it say's, rain jersey by revi, it's up at the top..
Let me know what you think of it, and if you'll be getting it..
Benjamin
I saw that they were advertising for one, but I couldn’t find the link. I’m glad you posted. Those jerseys are sharp. I’ll definitely be getting one.

Ok that's cool Random, so I gather then that you'll be wearing it for the ride that day?..Maybe that'll be a way to find you, but then again there maybe hundreds of other people wearing them also, so that won't work..We'll see, I agree with you they look sharp, but I have sooo many jersey's now, I really don't need to get another one, but those look sooo good to me it'd be neat to commerate the ride with one..We'll see..
Take care
Benjamin
I’ve recently joined a club made up of mostly racers. I’ll probably be wearing my new colors. I have tons of jerseys too, but when a good one comes along, I figure it won’t kill me to add another. My son came up with the idea of having my time silk-screened on the back.

Hey that's a cool idea, silk screen your time on the back, your son is pretty smart it sounds like, good idea!!...Do you mind me asking what club you ride with now..Last year I rode the ride in my club gear also, so I'll probably do that this year also..
Thanks,
Benjamin

Don't want to come across as snide. If so I apologize. Indiana, looking at the map from those who live in the larger western states. That barely looks like a good century? Maybe bigger.? At least it is not Delaware...
To a westerner Iowa looks pretty dinky.. At least Michigan or Ohio has some width..And no mountains..But I am sure it is fun...Is it not Indiana or somewhere there abouts, where they have that donut century.. Hope they are creme filled, for one hundred miles. The width of Indiana would probably not get us to LA.
But, the scenery is nice as I recall and do have fun.Bloomington is supposed to be really bike friendly.

Random ...
I have sent in my registration for the RAIN. First time for this ride and this mileage. Max to-date in one ride is 75 miles. Couple friends have finished the 157 miles ... if they can, I pretty sure I can.
See you there!

It's right at 158 miles.

What kind of pace do you think you'll be riding at? There is always the possibility of hooking up. Caadman is pretty quick, and if I can get some guys here to go, the pace will be fast, but they'll do most of the work.
Caadman…I’ll post a picture of our new jerseys. I haven’t seen what they are going to look like. So I can’t describe them.

That would be great Random, it would be great to get a group like you're talking about and jamming to the finish, thanks..
Oldillini, great move on sending the registration in, I have to do mine this weekend, since I get paid on thursday, so then I'll have mine in..It'd be great if you could join Random and his teamates and myself and we could do it together, last year I did quite a bit by myself, so I'd like to have a group this year, but we'll see..
Have a great season, and we'll talk later.

I would love to hook up with a group. I just don't know what pace I will be, having never riden that far in a single day.
I tend to stay around that 17.5-18.5 mph pace for my shorter rides (20-30 miles). I have not checked pace for the metric centuries I have completed.
Have a few days to plan it out ...
Mark
