I have a SS conversion I'd like to make a FG.

The bike used to be an 18 speed, but the original owner removed 5 of the 6 rear gears on the Shimano cassette, and 2 of the three gears on the crank, and BAM! a fixie.

I'd like to mess around with a FG bike. I've read Sheldon's site, and if I read correctly, all I need to do is remove the cassette from the hub and screw down a fixed gear (locktite / lock ring / etc.) And will probably have to tweak the location of the gear on the crank to line up with the fixed gear, right?

Is this correct? just looking for a thumbs up before I screw everything up.

(I know I could get a new flip flop or fixed hub, just looking to do it cheap, figure out if I like it, then beg the wife for the financial outlay :P)

if it's a cassette you can't screw anything on cos a cassette slots on and is held by a lock ring. you'll need a new hub/wheel.

It's a triple and a 6 speed on the rear. I can guarantee you it's not a modern "cassette". (3x6=18).

You are attempting to build a suicide rear wheel. Guess why it's called that. Go save up $100 and buy yourself a real track hub/wheelset.
