Welcome to BF.
Get some kind of bike that is close to a good fit. They are like shoes. They need to fit for a long walk or ride.
Just start riding, go slow. Took 500 miles for my legs to get strong to start going faster.
My first 6 mile ride required 3 stops to rest. that was 7 months ago.
Now I can go 40 miles non-stop at 15 mph.
Monday rode 80 miles, Tuesday 86 miles.
You can do it also, I am 66 y/o.
Let us know what bike you start with?

Hello djnzlab1 and welcome. We don't have any innitiation or anything
like that, but we do thrive on ride reports with pictures and enjoy salivating
over descriptions of post ride pie.

Hee, hee. A lot of really great folks here, I think you'll like it.

Happy Trails

I've found that cycling has made me better-looking and smartier, two.

Welcome! Sounds like you're off to a good start. I've never done any type of exercise that I enjoyed as much as I do cycling, did as consistently...... or spent as much money on.:o

Welcome. You and I are probably the same age. I returned to biking after a l-o-n-g break and became re-addicted quickly. Let us know what kind of bike you find and how you are doing. If you ride, as much as you can whenever you can, you will be astonished at the results. As mentioned, you will get stronger, better looking, smarter - and a whole lot happier. Get going!

Before you get the full welcome- What bike? What Colour? and what PIE?

Glad you came to your senses and stopped pounding the pavement. What happened-- did you get the sack from your job as a Traffic warden?? (Yet another reason to be conservative on the welcome)

EDIT- Just in case it is an "in" joke. Pounding the Beat or Pavement over here used to be the term used for policemen patrolling their area on Foot. They have lost the use of their legs as they all have cars now- so the term- Pounding the Pavement is now used for anyone that patrols the Streets.

57 going on 58? That sounds like me. :) Welcome to the forum.

I still run, but primarily on dirt or sand, rarely on asphalt, and never on concrete.

Welcome!

I never tried running until I was in my early 50's. The knees just didn't like that so I gave those running shoes away and have never regretted it. Biking is much more fun!

Welcome,

Running brought me back to biking 'cause I couldn't run anymore. I also plan to ride long past the point where my friends and family think I'm still crazy!

Welcome - we are the same age (almost 58)!

I agree cycling is so much easier on older bones and joints - but then I like mountain biking and well, can't seem to stop crashing. My head, knees and elbows have had their share of abrasions (and some surgeries!). Just remember to stay on the bike...

Also welcome. Take issue with one statement above. Get a bike that really fits not just fits close. Your cycling time will be so much more enjoyable. Garages are filled with bikes that did not fit the rider and they gave up the sport.

Welcome, I just returned to riding a bike at age 65. So far it's been fun. I am still getting the hang of it.
