This may sound stupid to some of you, but I gotta ask...what does lactic acid buildup in your muscles feel like?

The reason I ask is because I'm not sure if I've ever had it. I do hard rides sometimes, and my muscles feel sore in the evenings sometimes, but I always figured it was just muscle soreness. I have noticed, though, that doing a light recovery ride that same evening after a hard ride during the day makes me feel better.

So have I been experiencing lactic acid buildup? Or not? How do you know?

Lactic acid does not produce muscle soreness. It's fuel, not a caustic waste product.

If you are feeling soreness after a ride, it's probably micro-tears in the muscle fibers due to overuse.

Why is this post in the TdF forum, by the way...?

I dont 100% agree with this but I will let it go... physio is a complicated thing. I suggest the OP start doing some reading on recovery and post ride fatigue.
