I have a mind to turn my old Trek 660 into a CX-on-the-cheap. My thought is to ride packed dirt trails up at Tahoe and possibly try a race this fall. Measuring by eye ball, it looks like I could get 28mm or maybe, just maybe a 30mm tire into my frame. (The limiter seems to be the chainstays, not the forks or brakes).
I have an older but never used Avocet Cross II that definitely would fit. (Bought it out of the clearance bin at REI) But I can't seem to find a second one online or in person.
Then I saw the Kenda Kwick on sale at Nashbar for $12. They're measured at 30, but as we all know, that could very well be 28mm or 32mm. My question: has anybody used these tires and if so, do you know their true widths?
