I'll admit, i'm not looking to become a hardcore biker, or a messenger of any sort. I'm just looking for a pretty good starter bike thats light and reliable. I ride BMX right now, but for something to get me around town quicker, without bumping mirrors in traffic would be ideal.
I went to my local bike store and the only "decent" bike they had was a felt fixed gear.(http://www.cyclelicio.us/2008/04/felt-curbside-fixed-gear-bicycle.html)
It was costing around $725 tax included.
Any suggestions? Maybe something a tad cheaper?
Thanks!

that looks like a nice bike compared to a lot of other bikes in the 700 dollar range.
nevermind, now that i read it i changed my mind. i thought she put all that crap on there herself.

I hear its nearly the same frame as the Felt Dispatch, which is pretty slick. Personally, I think it looks tacky as hell (toptube pad + matching seat, flat bars, gold hubs) :( It's probably pretty comfortable to ride though..

If you searched, you'd find that there are many under $700.
i see that bike sometimes, and reminded how awful it looks.

since its a beginners bike how about the bikesdirect.com mercier kilo tt for $350 or the hour for $300? there are alot of good reviews out there for these bikes...actually they have their own thread showing them off haha. or for around 700 im sure you can get an IRO...people swear by these

Instead of Mercier, get a KHS Flight 100. It has better components and its the same frame as the Mercier.
The IROs are nice. But I prefer the Surly Steamroller to them though. The price is the better for the Steamroller complete, in my opinion.

I just started and I got the curbside. I've changed the seat to a black seat. I really like it. It's really not a bad bike at all despite what some of the folks on here think.
