Classic & Vintage - 27mm Seatposts hard to find.

The seatpost that came out of my Centurion Ironman was 27mm. It seemed to fit perfectly, put some one before me scratched it up horribly from top to bottom. So far to my surprise I'm finding 27mm seatposts difficult to find even on Ebay. What is up with that? I can find all kinds in 27.2mm. I was hoping to find a Thompson Elite, but it comes in 27.2 not 27. I've seen some campy record ones in 27 for what I consider ridiculous prices. I've seen a couple generic ones in a couple places.

Any good sources for a quality 27mm seatpost? Anyone here have one for sale?

I have a nos Super Record in a 27 but as you said.....It would be a ridiculous price! Just out of curiosity (I've never tried this) can you get a shim and use a 26.8? What's wrong with a Kalloy 27? They are only $20 or so....

QBP lists a number of 27mm posts, starting at about $20. They list a Thompson Elite in 27.0 too.

I have Centurions with 27mm seatposts too and one of them
came badly scratched. I slipped into the bathroom in the
dead of night, stole a couple of my wife's emery boards and
used the rougher side gently to file out a few deep scratches
and then used the fine side for the rest. After the emery
board, I used fine steel wool to polish the whole post and
then used a metal polish (very fine abrasive of some kind
with ammonia in it) to finish the job.

It did not come out perfect but good enough so that one has
to really look hard to see what remains of the scratches. If
I was a perfectionist, I could have done better.

Of course if you have a power drill with the right polishing
attachment, you could make short work of this but you have
to be careful not to take away too much material.

Remember, your seatpost is aluminum and very soft. You will
be surprised how fast the emery board works, the steel wool
too. And you have nothing to lose as you can't sell a
scratched seatpost, except to someone whose wife uses
emery boards and is looking for a seatpost on the cheap.

I have a 27.0 Campy NR in pretty good condition (post is relatively unscratched but the cradle bits are oxidized) that I'd gladly trade for a 27.2 Campy NR. In fact, I have the 27.0 in a bike now and am using shims because it's too small. PM me if you're interested.
