Recreational & Family - Axle too short for trailer coupler?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a Trek 7.3 on which I'm trying to install a Schwinn/Instep coupler for our child trailer. The coupler attaches to the back axle (quick release). However, it seems that the axle is just barley enough as is; when I add the coupler, the axle will not reach through to meet the nut on the other side. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? The couple attaches fine to my old junker hybrid, but I'd much prefer to use the new ride for the trailer.
Thanks.
Just ride down to your local LBS, bring your coupler with you, and buy a longer skewer. They come the different lengths.

Longer skewer is the way to go, as suggested. I presume you've pushed in the springs on your existing skewer and it still won't reach?

The Chariots come with a longer skewer, odd that others don't.
