Folding Bikes - Just bought 2 Avenir Folding Bikes

I just bought 2 Avenir folding bikes this past week or so. And so far am very impressed riding mine around. I think it is in some ways more comfortable than my mountain bike. But I think it needs a gear adjustment on the one I ride as 2 of the gears don't seem to settle in exactly. Hopefully the shop where I got them can adjust it so that all 6 gears are smooth. We will be using them mostly for taking when we RV, but I can think of other times to use it, like riding to the (Toronto) Islands.

The Avenirs are a decent licensed copy of a Dahon. Nothing wrong with them at all. Available in both steel and alu. with the chief difference being weight. The stem on the Avenir is one piece which removes a source of play from the handlebars compared to a modern Dahon.

I haven't even thought of taking a pic of them. But I could if you want to see it (them). I don't know if it is anything special in the folding bike world, with people paying upwards of $2000. for Bromptons and Bike Fridays, etc. I bargained a bit with the store clerk who I think was actually the store manager and got a total of about $160 knocked off the price and paid $400. a piece. They are aluminum and basically all silver. Has mudflaps, and yes the handlebar stem does not telescope which I thought might be a problem, but when I rode it, it is perfect the way it is. I bought a gel seat and cheapo bell to make it legal (illegal here without a bell no matter what type).
Anyways, regardless of whether it is considered a cheap bike in the folding bike world or not, I am happy with the ride of it and am looking forward to Tuesday when we take a mini camping trip to a park that has a lot of paved roads throughout it so we can really break them in.

Why did you say you wouldn't have paid $400.? It was the out-the-door price. I did not see any cheaper bikes anywhere except online where I could not test ride it. Seeing it in person before buying was important to me. This Avenir bike, although manufactured by Dahon uses all standard replacement parts, like wheels, tubes etc. Didn't want one that would be proprietary and have to pay specialty prices. Wish I could have seen a Downtube for $250. as I see quoted in other posts. Probably would have bought them for sure!! I really like the looks of them. Here is the stock photo of ours:
