Southeast - Gatlinburg vacation

We are going to Gatlinburg next week. I plan to take my road bike. We are staying someplace above Dollywood. Any good bicycle paths suitable for roadbikes down there. Is there any laws about riding bicylces on the road I should know about? I am a flatlander and am looking forward to some hills. Might have to call a tow truck.

Gorgeous country there. My favorite vacation spot. Its mountains though. You'll be right at one of the entrances to the Great Smokies. Asheville NC is an hours drive away. Cades Cove is a hit. I see lots of roadies making the trek up the mountains. Town is busy with cars though. Have fun

Go to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains and ride the Cove Loop road. It is paved, but very rough in places, and has several great climbs. On Saturdays and Wednesdays only, the Cove Road is closed to cars and open to walkers and bikers only from sunrise until 10AM.

Is there any laws about riding bicylces on the road I should know about?The laws are probably similar to those in Indiana. What you should know, however, is that the traffic on main roads around Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is heavy. You'll probably have a better cycling experience if you go down to the Townsend/Maryville area. As Alpha52 said, Cades Cove can be enjoyable too, if you avoid heavy traffic.

well I am now in Sandusky, but I did finds Cades Cove. Thanks, It was prettty suprising to find so many nice fairly safe to ride. Thanks agaiin, Tennessee was a pleasrue. Now I am going out for a ride about 10 miles south of Cedar Point.

If you want to do a good climb try US441 up to clingmans dome , it takes about 2 hours from sugarlands visitor center and about 45 minutes back down . I went about 6am on a sunday morning last august and got back before the traffic got bad which is about 11am.
