News just in: The Saunier Duval has fired both Riccardo Ricco and Leonardo Piepoli for "doping practices."

There had been rumours that another rider tested positive for the same substance, CERA. While this is yet to be confirmed, it is clear that the team has serious doubts about the stage 10 winner.

The company is also understood to be considering stopping its sponsorship of the team.

So all you guys who said the dopers were one step ahead of the testers were right. Now the question remains; will the advantage ever move towards the testers? I fear the answer is no.

Before they were three or four steps ahead. Now they are only one step ahead. To me, it kinda looks like the advantage is beginning to moving toward the testers.

The key seems to be WADA working with the drug companies. That appears to be what happened here.

I can't find anything that says Piepoli failed a test, says he was fired for ethical reasons, it could be doping sure, but I thought we didn't jump to conclusions here.

Lithuania

well it says he was fired for "doping practices" so they obviously know something about him doping regardless if he failed a test or not.

Piepoli, the winner of stage 10 to Hautacam, is not reported to have failed a drugs test, but the team decided to fire him after conducting an internal investigation. "[Gianetti] did a personal investigation and consequently lost faith in Riccò but also in Piepoli because of a violation of the team's ethics code," read a team statement.

from the same article, once again I'm not saying he did not dope, just saying he never failed a test as of yet. Maybe he was fired for knowing about Ricco's doping.

It may yet come out...the test Ricco failed and they drug him away yesterday for was on Stage 4. The tests aren't complete the day the sample is taken.

My guess is he admitted to Gianetti to using the same stuff Ricco was on and since he won a stage also his time was coming.

If you don't want to read info about the TdF, why are you reading an active thread about the TdF?

Because people in this forum usually aren't big enough idiots to post a spoiler!!

because up until the picture was posted, there was no indication of what happened today in this thread. this thread has nothing to do with who won today, and posting the pic without a spoiler warning is bad form.

See above. Anyway, with the long history of spoilers that have been posted here and on the roadie forum, anyone not wanting to see one surely would know better than to read a thread about the TdF. Or they just like to whine about it, and point fingers. Whatever.

Well aware. What's your point? Regardless of location, this particular thread is about doping (or suspicion of doping) in the TdF. If you don't like it, ask a mod to move it.

I'm not . .. as you note:

this particular thread is about doping (or suspicion of doping) in the TdF.

And more to the point, a thread about a team that, because of doping practices ISN'T EVEN IN THE TOUR ANYMORE. The posting of Cav on the podium holding up four fingers has NOTHING to do with the thread other than to be an a** by spoiling today's race for those of us who avoid the TDF portion of the forums.

you aren't getting it. i am aware that you were not the one that posted the picture, however, you then defended the picture by claiming that any thread about the tdf is fair game for spoilers. this is not true. (fwiw, i already watched today, so i am trying to protect other people's delayed viewing of the stage). this thread was completely devoid of a spoiler before the pic and was about a completely different topic. the pic, or any mention of the winner and/or events of today are COMPLETELY incidental to this thread and its subject. to boot, there wasn't even a spoiler alert to go along with it. it's not whining and pointing fingers, its about respecting other people's desire to preserve suspense when watching the stage later. i guess people that don't want to know what happened shouldn't get on bike forums at all, or even the internet.

I get all that, and I'm sympathetic...to a point. When people read threads about the TdF, especially on bf's, you have to expect spoilers. Unfortunately, they are very common here, regardless of how many times people preach about "spoiler alerts". Common sense should tell you, don't read about the TdF if you don't want to know what happened.

I can kind of see caring about spoilers on a mountain stage where there will be an extended exciting climb but for today you're talking about a 20s clip that you won't even get to see until after the show has spoiled the results anyway.

It was me of course and it was not my intention to post a spoiler, I wasn't thinking and I apoloize for any loss of interest you may suffer in today's stage as a result of my photo.

It does seem though, that complaining about asses like me posting spoilers is really the objective, rather than actually not being spoiled. I'm OK with that... rant on.

Exactly. It's about doping, not who won today. If people read a thread about Will Smith that doesn't necessarily mean they want to know the ending of the movie he just released.

DrWJODonnell

I have watched peopoli ride others off his wheel like he was bored. I have only seen two others do this - rassmussen and Contador. Is piepoli clean and one of the world's only "true" climbers?? And to be bold and libelous, the other day, in the main contenders group there was only one person who did not appear to be suffering at all, a certain Rabobank. Just saying.

Understood. My point is this...if you click on a thread about the happenings in the TdF, there is a strong chance that you will find out what happened. Especially if said thread drags on for a couple of days.

If you want to talk about Will Smith, bf's has a forum for that.

Sorry DS about the a** comment. Had this been the first reply to mine I would have never made the comment since mistakes do happen.

Hey, part of the problem with us suckers who have to work and yet want to watch the stages is that spoilers happen in unexpected ways. Heck, I've got the NY Times RSS feed automatically updating and that spoiled two days of racing for me when they posted on doping stories.

Piepoli tested positive for salbutamol during the giro last year. He was later cleared for having a legitimate reason for using it.
