OK, we have seen the thread to build the ultimate (no expense spared) road bike, so let us try to build the ultimate Commuter/Tourer, as I figure this is closer to what most people reaaaaly want.

This bike will be doing say 1000 miles or 2000 kilometers as a commuter bike, per annum so swift gear changing, lots of road response, and carrying the expensive laptop. Followed by doing a couple of tours a year of say 1000 miles or 2000 kilometers fully loaded with the tent etc. It's going to be used all year round and the place is either Europe or North America.

I'll start with the frame which will be the Thorn Nomad

Yours for only about £350 or $500, and you will notice comes with 26" wheels

Add your bits, one per message with a price and a website if possible.

I just fitted my MTB with slicks. It's done two tours and over 1,000 commutes so I think it' done OK.

I don't know anyone who owns a Thorn, but they look reasonable value.

I'll go for a pair of vredestein spider's at £19.95 each, because they've served me well on my commuter both on and off-road.

Umm... it's going to be a practical bike but I'm not sure it's going to have the drool factor...
