Attempting to get to Carderock parking area on the C&O this weekend by bike (from G'town), but am hoping to ride pavement until I get there...is Clara Barton safe for bikes west of Glen Echo? Was planning on riding MacArthur to just before the Naval base and take the exit that leads down to Clara Barton...looks like I'd be on it for a mile or two before reaching the canal path parking lots.

It's usually okay outside of rush hour times, but it's safest to ride it with a buddy. I've been on it solo, and as long as you have your wits about you and the traffic isn't too heavy, it's fine.
