Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. "Then you get this idiot Ricco who shoots off his mouth about how good he is... (and) he goes positive," fumed Hunter.
"He needs to be punched in the nose for his arrogance."

His stupidity got him ousted , humiliated. it did not hurt the sport, it hurt himself. Now he can't even do any one day wonders. Nothing is worse than the alienation of his teammates. / If all sport went under for such behavior , we'd have no sports at all. From what I heard at stage 12 yesterday, the fans still cheer in a bike race. So, no need to punch him in the face for his stupidity.

thanks for that link!:thumb:
One of my friends had an idea to fix baseball back a few years when it was still suffering from the loss of popularity from the player strike. Every team needed to hold a "Kick Bud Selig in the Crotch" night, just rotate around the league sending Selig from city to city until all the teams were covered.
Cycling would benefit from something similar.

Instead, baseball turned a blind eye on steroids and doping until they just about lost their anti-trust exemption, then put in a set of rules with less teeth then a newborn baby. Seems to have worked pretty well for them too, how sad.
If Riccardo Ricco stays clean, somebody will sign him up. He's still young and has talent. Liquigas signed Ivan Basso to a 2009 ride (2-year contract). So there's interest in the fallen and probably can get them on the cheap. It's a matter of whether or not a team feels the rider will abide by the rules and not take any drugs.
Have to wait and see what penalties Ricco gets. Probably the usual 2-year ban. Michael Rasmussen has been looking around for a team that will sign him.

A lot of pitchers have lost several MPH off their fastballs, the big, gorilla-armed batters are not doing well this year, it's a completely different kind of batter hitting homeruns now.
It's not going to be a fast process. Most people don't have any appreciation for the sport outside of big hitters. They want Babe Ruth baseball, not Ty Cobb baseball.

Ricco was arrested for possesion of poisonous substances which comes with possible jail time in France -- the 2 year cycling ban is the least of his worries.
Where was Hunter's holier than thou attitude when his teamate was booted. I don't agree with the dopers but Hunter had someone on his team bus to pop in the nose.

You missed the part about arrogance.
No I didn't.
So Ricco is the 1st athlete to have a big mouth and use PEDS? I think not.
Yes Ricco's positive hurts cycling worse than Duenas' but if one of your mates is a cheat, you should focus on keeping your own house clean.
Edit: Hunter should be the Barloworld patron, He is the veteran face of a team that was on the come. I think he must speak out against PEDS. As all team leaders should but if you live in a glass house......

LOL. South African accusing someone of being arrogant.
As do I...
+ punch
Not for doping, but for being such a jag off in general.
... Brad
Well it looks like Hunter will be unemployed soon so I'd imagine he wouldn't mind punching Duenas too.

If this article is correct, then the 'poisonous substances' are vitamins...lol:

The police did let him go, but don't know how the laws work in France to let someone go/leave the country if they broke some laws or committed a felony. A lot of countries would keep you in jail or make you pay bail. Would suspect Ricco was one of the 20 riders that tested at the limit at the beginning of the tour.
There are a few articles that said if the current UCI and WADA standards were applied, the riders may have passed. On any case, the CERA (Mircera), or some say CERA stands for Cobra Exits Right Away, molecule was submitted to the WADA before the drug entered the market, so it should be detectable.

Liquigas signed Basso for 2009 having signed an agreement saying they wouldn't sign anyone banned for doping offenses fro 4 years! An agreement to which all Pro Tour team signed, but as the pro tour is no more your guess is as good as mine.

I just don't think any of us can even imagine the pressure that any of these folks experience in this sport. I do not condone doping; however, I am not angry at Ricco. In fact, I'm happy we had an opportunity to see him in action. Yes, I don't like his comments, but these folks are at the top of this game, regardless of what they are doing to themselves to be more competitive.
I am happy this year's TDF has been an exciting race so far.

Kind of makes you wonder if "vitamins" is a euphemism.

I'd love for these gaddamn dopers to die in a collective house fire, and not just the dopers but these team bosses that are letting this happen, and immediately turn stab these guys in the backs when they get caught.
