Hey everyone,

I've been reading alot about squirt chain lube a lot lately, it seems to be the next revolution or whatever in chain lubes (dry at least). I was wondering if anyone has tried it and has any fixed or ss specific comments on it.

Also in more of a general light, I know nothing about chain maintanence, so I've read other postings and it seems people tend to like dry lube a bit more in this forum, is this the way to go or not (more specifically, what brands)? (but try not to just bring up the same points over again).

Thanks,

dry lube will not attract grime from roads like liquid lubes will. I still use Triflow, best lube ever.

Anyone ever use this on a bike chain?

I used to use it on my motorcycles, but I've never tried it on a bicycle chain...

A sticky, gooey mess. But it really hangs on at 100mph.
Call me passe, but I use White Lightning on my bicycles.

Use tri-flow if you want your chains to turn jetblack after riding for a day or two after application. Messy, crappy, ****ty.

Ritchey Chain Lube. Keeps it nice and sparkly.

maybe if you live in a constant rainstorm and ride on roads paved with grime.

I'm using Squirt chain lube on all my bikes, fixed and geared. I'm happy.

Meh, I'm a "Wet" kind of guy myself. (And yes, of course that sounds wrong.)

My favorite is Finish Line Cross Country. But yeah it's messy as all hell.

White Lightning is a very good brand of lube. They make many other formulas to be used depending on what type of riding you do most. As others have said the dry lube is best if you wish to keep your chain from attracting all the road grime you despise.

Nope. Dry conditions. Tri-flow just blows, plain and simple. The only chain lube i'd put on a bike that doesn't commute through bad weather is rock'n'roll. Anyone who's used it will instantly agree with me.

I have not used anything but Triflow because I've never seen a reason to, so I can't speak too strongly in opposition without being a hypocrite. You must concede, though, that saying a Triflow chain instantly turns black is a little bit of hyperbole. I do remove my chain and soak in in Pine Sol monthly though, so YMMV.

Am a bit old fashioned.
Clean/scrub chain. Drop chain into can of hot parrafin.
Doing that for 30+ years.

Tri flow is what I started using on my SS since the others seemed to not last as long. I think the Teflon additive gets into the metal and lubes inside the links where is counts. In my experience, all the lubes make your chain black eventually. Cleaning and re-lubing seems to work.:50:

OK, time for an update. I've been using White Lightning and Ice Wax on my bikes for a long time now, but it may be time for a change.
The chain, chainring, and cog on my commuter bike (Burley Runabout, internal gear hub) are SHOT at 1,200 miles... never a squeak, always clean.... and thoroughly worn out.

PS Anyone know where I can get a new cog for a SRAM s-7 internal gear hub?

what about finishline dry lube? I use it and it seems to work well but I'm open to suggestions on other good dry lubes.

+1 for the White Lightning. Been using it for the past 7000 miles. Chains lasting ~2000 miles each. Could get more mileage out of them if I lubed and cleaned 'em more. But as it is I lube ~100 miles and pitch the chain once it hits the Parks tool stretch limit of 1.00.
