I had my first pedal strike a week ago, and got to wondering what other peoples ps (pedal strike) stories were. Mine was pretty run of the mill, was turning onto a street to tightly and whack! Didn't fall off but took a chunk out of my new mks's. Anyone got some good stories?

same thing happened to me. took a corner too tight and bent up my pedal a bit, but thats about it.

If you haven't gone down from pedal strike, you don't tried hard enough! I'm thinking about going to longer crank arms as well as trying some different gearing... the strikes will come more often.

I already flipped over the front end but that was from braking to hard.

I've only gone down like twice from pedal strike. And not in a dramatic way, simply a slow embarassing laugh-at-yourself way.

Kind of like when you eat it from ****ing up a clipped-in trackstand.

Alternatively, if you fall from a pedal strike you need to work on your bike handling skills!

My pedal made contact with a short-but-tall speed bump. It lifted the bike up sending me butt bouncing up and landing hard on the saddle. Crotch hurt big time. Luckily, I did not fall, and continued on riding.

I think it's just a matter of getting out of your clips easily enough if you're about to flop over.

I actually thought this was just a personal problem, glad to see other people with the same difficulty!

I've always had (to my knowledge) 170mm crank arms, I've been looking for a new set hoping for 165's, but I got a steal deal on some 170's on Ebay. Just curious, does anybody have any experience changing from 170-165 and noticed much of a difference? Sheldon Brown recomended 165, which is what made me ask this.. Can 5mm really make a noticable difference?

i made the change a while ago, and interms of the difference i noticed: i didnt notice much of a difference in the power i got from pedaling, but i did notice a significant and positive difference in the amount of close calls i had. i can now take tighter turns and not worry about scraping, so yeah i'd suggest making the switch.

last night, only bike shorts & shoes on my body... corner too fast=right leg to cheek is nice and red. I'll update with a pic whenever I get home. Needless to say, going riding again tonight here in Austin w/ the Midnight Ride.
