Foo - The dinner at the office event (Rant)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is the 3rd time this happens. I get a call from another department "hey, tell your guys we have food overhere... we are celebrating (whatever) and there's enough here for everybody". So we get up, get overthere, zeroed on the food, and as soon as we are taking the plate, this lady looks at us and says out loud "since we are celebrating John Dow's (whatever), let's let him pick up his food first". This make us look like gredy lets-eat-free freeloaders.

Now we are mad, we don't eat anything and we are ordering lotsa a pizza. We don't need handouts from anybody, we went because we were invited. We usually take the food and come back to our area because we do have work to do and can't spend to much time socializing. We can pay for our food.

Like I said, this is the 3rd time we get the same number, same lady every time.

From now on, invitations to this kind of gatherings will be ignored by our department. Thanks for the free-food offerings, but honestly and respectfully, you can shove it.

Our department pizzas have arrived. We call the other team and offer to share our pizzas. They are already full and didn't came. Too bad, we wanted to tell them:

"Go ahead, dig in. We haven't started yet, but we really don't mind about those stupid protocols and stuff. Dig in, take all you want."

Maybe some other time...

PS: You won't believe how mad we are about this stupid incident, even tho we know it is very stupid.

Does the loud mouth girl clock in at around 275 lbs, by chance? You may be in dangerous territory there, messin' with her next meal like that.

I would go back and take her Stapler.

Then staple her lower lip to her forehead.

Superglue her stapler so it never works again.

I'd say staple her lower lip to her forehead but SOMEONE beat me to it. :)

( or superglue her phone to it's cradle )

Say "Oh, I'm sorry, we were just invited and not told the details. Due to time constraints, we don't have the time to wait."

Then take all the food. All.

Note to self... do not piss off Siu.

Ever.

We get the same thing at our job too. It's not like we're barging in to bogart the luncheon/party. We wait until everybody had their fill then we "scavange" the leftovers. Heck! You can't deny anybody scavanging rights! Even the lions and bears leave something for the vultures and jackals. But there's always somebody telling us to wait and asking if everybody had a plate before the food dissappears. Now when we have office luncheons we don't tell anybody, except employees who used to work in our department. They can bring any friends but that's it.
