Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Quick Post: Cheap SE Draft, worth it to part out?

This guy is selling his SE Draft for $75 cuz he's moving out of town and his plane leaves tomorrow morning. I read the reviews here but I wanna know if its still worth it to buy it and use the parts for my own Nishiki conversion project? Say, the seat, crank, chain, wheelset, and brakes at least. Comes with a lock too. Thanks. I just need a quick reponse before I call this guy. He just posted it half hour ago.

for $75 it's definitely worth it. Just ride it around as a beater and get better parts for a conversion... or get better parts for the frame. Worry about details later, grab it now before it's sold!

The wheels that bike comes with are for a SS not a track hub so you're gonna have to rig a cog if you're using them for a fixed gear conversion. Also those wheels are worse than the $100 Vueltas they sell on ebay, just take one jump off the curb or hit one pothole and you're gonna be out of true. the brakes it comes with are worthless and so is the saddle. Quite frankly that bike is crap because of its components so why would you want to use them on your conversion?

Cuz people can sell conversions on CL for $300, duh.

I used to have a SE Draft. Those wheels are bombproof. The tires are not. Kenda tires FTL. The bike as a whole is heavy, probably 26 pounds built up as a fixed gear? I had mine setup with Mavic Aksium Race (front) and an Alex/Formula wheel (rear). The ride absorbs a lot of shock from the road. But again, about the weight, if you don't care too much about it, you'll probably be fine. Lose the ashtabula cranks and purchase the Euro-American bb converter quick status if you're going to switch the bb/chainring/cranks.

I don't wanna go out and buy anything just cuz it seems like a good deal. I remember someone else saying about the SE that "Somethings that seem like a good deal, just aren't". Why it has a one piece crank, I don't know. But, I don't need it. And based on what THE TANK has to say. It's not worth it. At all. The purpose would not be to ride it, but to snatch the parts off of it. Exactly, even if you're not made of money $75 is a pittance for a bike that will AT LEAST hold up to bar hopping, inner-city cruising, locking-up-overnighting. But someone else probably saw the virtue in this and nabbed it anyway.

Buy it for $75, sell it for $100. I mean, I'm not a capitalist or anything but we all need to eat, right? ;-)

One piece cranks are perfectly functional, never go wrong, and are very simple to work on with no specialized tools. That bike was a steal.

until neither of them ever bend because it might be a low-end bike, but it's not going to fall apart into flames. especially as a SEVENTY FIVE DOLLAR BEATER BIKE.

Even if you managed to mangle a crankarm an angle grinder would make quick work of it in seconds. Again, sheesh -- y'all act like BMXers in the 70s and 80s never mashed on one-piece cranks when that's all they had.

Why are people still answering this question? Especially since they're answering a question that I didn't even ask. I am not interested in buying a bike for its components to build up a bike, if the components are not equal in quality to what I would buy piece by piece. This is the ONLY reason for buying it as i already have a commuter, a beater, and a project. (Well, that and possibly flipping it on CL for a hundred bucks)

Posters have given plenty of reason why NOT to buy an SE.

for $75, it's a good deal..only cause $75 isn't any sort of major investment :) However, I wouldn't buy one from my lbs ($240)

If you're bending one piece crank arms, you'll be destroying much more expensive aluminum crank sets way more often.

There was a great reason to buy it. It's a durable, functional bike, basically a cruiser that rides easier. For cheap. If one can't be seen with it because it had a one piece crank or other such nonsense, that's idiotic.

I would have bought that bike in a heartbeat and flipped it on CL for a lil' profit.
