I just got back from watching "The Dark Knight". I am not a comic book movie fan, and it is already one of the best movies I have ever seen.
The acting from top to bottom is great, and the effects and action in the movie are great without over-powering the story.
Heath Ledgers performance is exceptional, but I think Aaron Ekhart as Harvey Dent was actually better.
Damn just see this movie.

I just got back from it, as well.
Yes/No/Yes
Great Movie.
Heath Ledger's performance was far better than Aaron Ekhart's role. He is just so believable as the ultimate psychotic villian.
Like the man said, go see it!
Saw this movie on opening night. Freaking awesome film! Everyone go see it.

+1, and a "Hmm..." to the comment in bold. Hadn't thought of it like that, but then again, Eckhart really does portray the pain and broken spirit of Two Face. Heath's Joker is frightening, while it's saddening to watch Dent and his collapse.
And -- FINALLY -- a Joker who's scary. There were a few people in my theater this afternoon who laughed at him, but I was wincing instead. The pencil trick made me jump. I kept thinking of the Arkham Asylum graphic novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkham_Asylum:_A_Serious_House_on_Serious_Earth) (and, now that I think of it, Batman: The Killing Joke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Killing_Joke)) and the incredible sadness & insanity it contained.
IMO, the story of the Batman is, at its core, one of unfathomable suffering and crushed lives. Tim Burton came very close with his two movies, and after the embarrassing Schumacher films, I think we've finally got the story back on track.
It's already my favorite movie of the year. I don't really care what comes out in the next five months.

Totally agree here. Realistically the only movie I know of coming out that may have the fan base to top what Dark Knight has seen in $ so far would be 007: Quantam of Solace and I don't think that has a chance of being anywhere near as spectacular as Dark Knight.
On the note of Joker, naturally he gets the attention due to Heath Ledger's untimely passing. It's a brilliant performance, but is dimming the lights on the other performances by the rest of the actors/actresses. This movie is done extraordinarily well and should not be missed.

Dark, deeply depressing film. Then again, it's not called The Sunny Knight, is it?
I personally thought that they went for it (the cast and crew)--rare in this industry (balls). It's a work of art. Not for kids or immature adults, the highly impressionable, people on medication, etc..

yes the movie was good, but it was too fast paced at the beginning and slowed down towards the end which is the total opposite from the first movie. Anyways Batman's bike was nice if only it was a single speed bike or something i would have stood up and clapped ^^

my only problem is how are they going to do the joker again with ledger dead? mark hamil? then again, they did change who played dawes. i thought she looked different but couldn't pinpoint it at first. oops.
and i did find the joker funny SPOILER! as he was walking out of that hospital, oh man. :roflmao2: seriously. and when he first looked at dent :roflmao2:
this is THE best movie i have ever seen. it was even deep and philosophical. pay attention to the use of lighting.
bane, they need to do bane next. they need to do him right.
and that was easily the coolest bat bike ever. it wasn't even flashy or dumb or anything, it just was... really damn maneuverable!
Movie rocked.
Oldman and Caine were solid.
Ekhart and Bale were excellent.
Ledger was intense and tragic.
Spoiler:
There's something there about how the script portrayed the Joker that really draws the viewer in. Something obviously broke him, but he hides his pain and its source (evidenced by the different stories he tells).

The movie was good but I think because of Heath Ledger's death people have started to think it was much better than it really was.
I don't understand how the bike went sideways. Also when Two Face drank the shot of alcohol all I could think of is how much that would hurt on his exposed skin.
Joker was played really well by Heath Ledger but I think more kudos should go to the writers and director and producer. You can always get a good actor but it's harder, I think, to get a good script and competent people to pull it off.
But it is good and you should probably see it if you haven't already. I just don't like the fact that it's the number one movie on IMDB.
Also: does Batman's voice remind any MGS fans of Snake? That's all my friends and I could talk about after the movie. Here's a video making fun of his ridiculous voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2yv8aT0UFc

It was good. I didn't find it nearly as captivating as the first one.
Batman - his voice started to drive my batty by the end. I found he over acted it this time. Last time it seemed more genuine.
Joker - best character in the movie. Excellent writing and acting.
2 face - didn't see enough of him to really critique. But I love character development, and this one definitely showed you the start to finish 2 face. If there is a 3rd I hope they continue
Robin - there wasn't one and there should never be

There could be a Robin, just as long as it's not cheesily stupid as Schumacher's or from the TV series. One of the latest rumblings I've heard was that they might draw from the story in Batman: Dark Victory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Dark_Victory). In the Wikipedia entry, it says, "It is played in the book that Dick [Grayson] is one of the only sources left of Bruce's humanity as he is slowly slipping from grace even with Selina Kyle's attempts."
I even liked the version of Robin that Frank Miller wrote into Dark Knight Returns.
We'll see what happens eventually. It's entertaining to speculate in the meantime, though.
Going tonight, can't wait!

Seen this one twice...absolutely love it! Ledger is right up there with Hannibal Lector and Darth Vader as a top all-time villain.
BTW JNorm, Manchester, NH is a great town. I grew up in Gilford and have spent many nights having fun down around the Millyard and downtown Manch area.

I saw it tonight. I thought it was okay, but for the most part, not all that exceptional.
Heath Ledger's death wasn't even on my mind when I saw the movie. To be brutally honest, I had actually forgotten about his passing away until I saw the credits and I asked one of my friends about it. The only reason I am mentioning that is because I thought that he did an awesome job as the Joker, and that his character stood out above all the rest. And I can honestly say that my opinion was not influenced by his death.
In spite of that performance, I never really got in to the movie all that much. I am not a big comic fan. However, I really enjoyed Iron Man, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. For some reason, I found that movie to be much more compelling and interesting than The Dark Knight.
I've seen it twice. Its a great movie. Harvey Dent/Two Face's special effects after his face burn was bad. Not really believable compared the the rest of the movie. Heath Ledger's performance is fantastic as well. I'm not sure an Oscar performance, but definitely the best of the movie.
Edit: I don't think you need to be a fan of comics to like it. I read comics a few years when I was really young, but mostly just X-Men and no Batman.

I am so not into actors that I honestly did not know Ledger was dead, or for that matter that he played The Joker.
I think what makes the film so good is balance. It is comic based, one can hardly call the characters believable, but they have depth and are not one dimensional. Same thing for action and character develpopment. Plenty of both, many films sacrifice one for the other.
Oh and a few surprises.
Back to balance and character depth. Is any character purely good or evil? Well perhaps some truely evil, but still those evoke some sympathy. But many of the good are shown to have feet of clay, yet they are still good.

Bump for going to see it again and give it a shot at matching or beating Titanic (which NEEDS to happen someday, whether it's Dark Knight or something else.. lol).
Get this -- it's still showing at twenty-seven theaters in my area, including two IMAX screens. Only one other movie is playing in as many places, and that's Bangkok Dangerous, which was released on Friday.
Whether you've already seen it or not, you owe it to yourself to see it in IMAX if possible. Sure, the only shots done with the big camera are the opening scene and most of the aerial views, but the visual mass of the screen and exceptional audio clarity really make the whole film sing.
Watching this made me feel like my whole life I've ridden Wal-Mart bikes and I just hopped onto a Seven or Serotta, or something.
i love the movie very much, but the book is more interesting

I thought all the reviews were just a bunch of hype until I saw it. Very good movie - Heath Ledger did an unbelievable job playing the Joker. My only complaint is: Why does Batman have to have the lousy voice? Anyway, great show!

That's my only complaint, too -- Batman's voice crossed the line from "intimidating" to "comical".
But yeah, I was seeing the reviews and thinking, "There's no way this comic book movie is really as good as they're saying..." Once it finished, I turned to my friend and actually pumped my fist :o, saying, "Now THAT is a great f'in movie."

I've seen it 3 times - with different people. Maybe Batman will have an operation on his vocal chords! When's the sequel?

I found one scene hilarious where Bruce Wayne's Lamborghini is zipping through the city streets and passes a latter day New Beetle Cabriolet. They have so obviously dubbed the sound of an old school air-cooled Volkswagen over the top of it. That unmistakeable low whistle of a stock aircooled exhaust system :D :D :D
But apart from that - I did enjoy it on a more serious level!
i think the film was over-rated. i prefer Batman Begins
