I received this via email. Looks fishy...I really dig the grammar and spelling. I wouldn't even consider filling this out. Just a heads-up.

Hard and fast rule: Never provide information such as proscribed in that 'notice' when you aren't actually on the website from which it was allegedly generated. Most websites make that explicit. This example you've kindly provided is one of the cheesier ones. Some are very well-crafted. Beware!

I'm sending this on to our friends and family. Did you send a copy to eBay? They like to know this stuff.

And there's an ad at the bottom for their own webhosting service.

Cheeky buggers.

That is a scam legitimate web sites will never ask you for all that information in an email. There not going to cancel your account without contacting you first, usually because of to many complaints. There is a similar one circulating that looks like it is from your bank.

For the record:
1. I know this is a scam, and thanks for reminding me. My 5 year old can tell the difference between legit and the crap I was sent. These are usually targeted towards new users who aren't very Internet savvy. I put this up as a warning to other newer eBayers 'just in case.'
2. eBay has been notified (by me and hundreds of others) and are posting on this (this is nothing new to them, but it was new to me) on their website. They even gave me an very quick response after I forwarded this on to them.

If anyone has received a similar email and 'accidently' sent info (tsk tsk...always confirm your sources people!), email eBay and cancel your credit cards if you entered any of the info in.

Pity that this guy will probably try something else low afterwards, unless he gets caught.

TIP FOR EVERYONE WHO BUYS ONLINE: Whenever you receive any kind of notification of action that needs to be taken with accounts, do not reply to the e-mail. It is also a good idea not to click on any links that ask for sensitive information in an e-mail. Instead, open a new browser window and type the address you normally use (eg: ebay.com, paypal.com, yourbank.org, etc). Then login like normal and if any action does need to be taken, they will certainly be courteous enough to have secure links.

I'm sure most of you have enough common sense to realize this, but it's such a simple thing to not consider if the scammer does a decent job of covering his tracks. Plus I fix computers at my college and I get used to meeting people naive enough for the scam to work.

Thanks for the heads-up 165.

You must resist the urge to throw batteries, even at the deserving.

In 100 words or less.....why?

Because the deserving have heads so thick, that you'd have to use a car battery. This would be to heavy.. and you'd strain your shoulder. With the shoulder that tweaked, you couldn't ride your bike.

I'm scared to respond. It may make your original post magically disappear.

I exist only as thoughts in your mind... like slightly melted ice cream in a procelean bowl.
