Road Cycling - frame and hip possition

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I noticed this training with a friend today. He has a normal frame where as i have a compact frame. I really want to know whether more power is produced with your hips right over the BB and cranks (normal) instead of further to the rear ( i good 2-5 cm) like on compacts?

As long as you have the correct leg extension, a couple of cm fore or aft shouldn't affect power output (assuming other aspects of bike fit are optimal). The weight of the legs powering the pedals down might be affected, but I don't see that coming into play unless you are riding a recumbent.
You could plunk down the $600 bucks for a powertap and then play around with your position if you're really serious!

Read the essay, How to fit a bicycle by Peter White (click the link in my sig line). The author explains saddle fore-aft position and how it affects both power and comfort.
