Im still in the market for a pair of MTB shoes. I found some Time SCOLOP XC shoes at www.performancebike.com on sale from $225 down to $50. I just wanted to know if these shoes are any good. They are online-order only from performance and none of the other bike stores near my house carry Time shoes.

What do you plan on doing? For racing they probably aren't stiff enough, and they don't have toe studs. I'd go with the pair of 661 Attacks (I think) at pricepoint, nashbar also has good deals on them.

Also try eBay, you can find pretty good deals on shoes there. I've seen Sidi shoes go for as little as 50 bucks.

I like the 661 and shimano shoes so I might go for one of those. Also, are toe studs really important?

I've noticed they help a lot...I had a pair of Axo Stingers that were okay shoes, but they didn't have spikes. The front lugs started to wear out after about a month, and they didn't have grip at all in the front. Spikes also seem to help with your traction I've noticed...
Personally I like Specialized shoes.
That said I won't buy any more shoes that don't have a ratchet buckle. This really aloows you to get the shoe snugged down (Careful not to get too tight and cut off circulation)
Sidi makes a show with a ratchet. I got my current specialized Pros on ebay never used for $80.
Sidi makes a show with a ratchet. .Hey it's Ed Sullivan in reverse :D
I'm running a pair of these (http://www.answerproducts.com/items.asp?deptid=10&itemid=48). I haven't had any compliants so far.
