Axle converting

Could I just get a metal washer type thing and stick it on my 3/8 axle to fit a 14mm fork or would it be best off getting this axle converter from dans http://www.danscomp.com/437000.php?cat=PARTS

buy it. easier than tryin to buy a washer somewhere else to try and fit it.
