For those of you who have the new Edge 705, would you purchase it again?

I understand there are some bugs to be fixed and it sounds as if they are addressing them. But are you happy enough with it to reccomend it?

Also, how many bike profiles can it accommodate? The website doesn't have this info. I've heard that you can have at least two, but I'm looking to use it on 3 different bikes.

Thank you

Will the 705 let you have different display options for each of the 3 profiles? I can't find a way to do that with the 305. Once you setup the 305 display, it has the same display fields for all 3 profiles.

Thanks. It looks like it fits the bill for my purposes.

Will it give speed read-outs without the speed/cadence sensor? I read an online review that said it does, so I'm guessing that--like in a car--having the sensor makes the data more precise than relying on the satellite signal alone.

I have a 705 w/ cadence sensor and find it fairly useless for speed. When climbing, it erroneously decides I'm going <2mph and auto-pauses every 10 seconds or so. It constantly comes in and out of auto-pause and never gives me an accurate reading for more than a few seconds. Obviously it's not supposed to work like that, but it isn't an isolated issue. I'm hoping Garmin comes up with a fix, but I'm using my old $40 cateye to do what my $700 GPS can't.

I briefly had the same problem. For me it was nothing more than rough roads had caused the sensor to rotate away from the spoke magnet to the point that it was only picking it up on random passes, giving me erroneously low readings. Try moving your sensor module closer to your spoke magnet and see if that fixes the problem. You can also turn off the sensor and just use GPS speed. See the related post in the 705 tips and tricks thread.

As to the question, yes, I would buy the 705 again. I like having the grade function, the maps, the turn-by-turn directions, the total elevation gained, etc. plus all the other standard features, cadence, heart rate, speed, etc.

Yes there are serious bugs that need to be addressed, but even as it sits now, it's pretty cool.

I am not even sure that I would buy my 305 again.

After a brief honeymoon with my virtual partner, Im really just back to speed, cadence HR and time. I could have spent the less to get the same.
