To you guys using power; Do most of you change your FTP when you see an upward move in your 60min NP? I have had my FTP set at 305w for quite awhile, @ 5 weeks ago I had a 60min NP of 307w in a race, then yesterday I was on a group ride were I had a 60min NP of 310w. I guess my understanding of NP is not clear enough to know the answer to this, so any help would be appreciated.

Personally I don't, I wait until I see a change in a more steady-state interval.

But if I had a FTP set at 305, and for some workout/reason I thought it had moved to 310, I probably wouldn't bother changing it anyway.

I think that a 60m NP of 5% more would indicate that you should test again. Otherwise, stay on your current testing schedule. If you feel that your training zones are getting a bit too easy, try bumping them up 10W or so, and nail it down after your next test(s).

Never. You want to know where your FTP is? Test it. 1hr ISOpower.

To quote the very knowledgeable Dr.A.Coggan:

How to determine your Functional Threshold Power (roughly in order of increasing certainty):

1/from inspection of a ride file.
2/from power distribution profile from multiple rides.
3/from blood lactate measurements (better or worse, depending on how it is done).
4/based on normalized power from a hard ~1 h race.
5/using critical power testing and analysis.
6/from the power that you can routinely generate during long intervals done in training.
7/from the average power during a ~1 h TT (the best predictor of performance is performance itself).
Note the key words "hard", "routinely", and "average" in methods 4, 6, and 7... "

+1 to the one hour test. I coach and have compared it to lab results and find that it's very effective. 30 minutes for HR threshold will work very well too.
