On this last Saturday SesameCrunch, Nigel and I rode from the CalTrain station to the fifth annual Tour de Fat bicycle celebration in Golden Gate Park. It's put on by the Fat Tire beer company, thus the name. There was a casual costume ride around GGP and some fun riding events. The event I saw the most of was riding as slowly as possible while consuming a glass of brew.
It was cold, windy and overcast( a typical summer day in SF), but lots of people showed up anyway. We left 3 or 4 hours later and bikes and riders were still streaming in.
There was a collection of odd bikes that were available for riding. I had just enough battery juice in my camera to take a few pics before it fizzled on me. The best bike that I did not get a pic of was a "carbon fiber" recumbent bike whose frame consisted of a single log(seriously!) to which had been bolted all the necessary parts to make it rideable. The owner even sported what appeared to be a "wooden" helmet.
Most of these bikes aren't really folding bikes, but since we rode our folders to the event, I figure that's close enough for this forum. Enjoy!

This guy had his "stoker" all pumped up for the event and taped to the bars and pedals of his older Schwinn tandem.

A set of beautiful custom small wheeled bikes. the chrome bike had cowboy themed trim on it. Very nicely done.

Now this is what a circus bike really looks like!

Yep, those are really tennis shoes. It appeared to be a bumpy, lumpy ride, but with excellent traction on the courts!

Believe it or not, this guy is actually not falling over. This thing is ridden on the center wheel and the front or back wheels.

Phat! These tires were from a car. It rode slowly, but quite smoothly.

It isn't easy to see, but the wheels don't line up on this bike. It is hinged on the seat tube and the front half swivels freely from the rear half. There was at least one rider that could actually ride the thing! Hey, this could qualify as a folder.

Oh dear God, I think I'm in love! These lovely ladies could really sing and were an absolute treat to look at. This picture does not do them justice. They were part of a group consisting of a banjo, trombone, guitar, acoustic bass and trumpet, and surprise, surprise, they were really good.
