I've got a '91 Allez Epic. That's the carbon fibre bike made for Specialzed by Giant. '91 had the new BB shell to eliminate the failures down there.

Cleaning my bike this month I noticed some white spots in the resin (in the CF tubing) near the head tube. I'm wondering if this is the early signs of a joint failure. The bike hasn't been used too much so if there's a known problem I figure someone here will know of it by now.

Lifetime warranty so I'm covered but before I bother the LBS I thought I'd ask here.

'91. early joint failure.

That's like a 90 year old man dying old age.

Cannot call it a premature death.

Pony up the money and get a modern bike. Not that wet noodle attempt at a cheap carbon frame.

The ones I have seen fail(not really fail, more like start the proces of failing) had the chalky oxide at the join that failed, but the only place I have ssen them pull apart was at the stay/BB join. Start putting your change in a jar and keep an eye on it. If you want to keep carbon there are several choices. I am a shill for Giant and think it is the best deal for the money, very light. Frame, fork with carbon steerer and headset around $1500. Maybe cheaper for 2004
