I so wanted this bike but it went beyond my bid ceiling last night. It would have satisfied my lust for a very very long time!

Anyone had experience with this beau? Seems like a hybrid between the Dahon Speed Pro & Mu SL. Of course it's the foreunner of the Mu SL bu over 1kg lighter!

I've heard that that's 1kg of wishful thinking. Can anyone that owns one of these confirm?
SesameChrunch has one. That bike was a special edition with all the lightest stuff on it.

So, when the world has gone round a few more times, and there is an emerging market for classic folding bikes of the early 21st century, is the Helios SL going to be one of those in demand - maybe even counterfieted, like 1275S Coopers, & Fiat Abarths of old ? What other icon folders will be in demand, the Presto Lite, Jetstream, Hammerhead, ???????

Indeed. It's a Helios SL. Mine is an anniversary edition, with some special Rolf wheels and markings. Under 17 lbs is quite an accomplishment.

I am probably going to sell mine, as I need to make room for another acquisition :innocent:...

Do you think I missed the boat Jur and should have upped the budget?
SC how do you rate it amongst all your bikes? i love the look and it's an ideal alternative to my Brompton sometimes because although it folds bigger it's so light!

It's a marvelous bike. It's built for sprinting!!! When I ride with my roadie friends on my other folders, I'm in the back of the pack on the climbs. When I ride the Helios, I'm in the front, where I should be :). The top end is only 95 gear inches, so it doesn't have the top end speed as a full size roadie bike. I have a 61t chainring for that purpose.
The Rolf wheels are super light. I think they're under 1,000 grams for the whole set! They were specially made for the anniversary edition Helios. The components are all top notch, SRAM X.0. I put on a set of carbon FSA cranks. This bike is fast.
Amongst my folders, though, it's getting the least usage. That's why I'm selling it. When I want to go fast, I have a carbon, top component, road bike that is also under 17lbs. So, there is no niche for the Helios in my stable. And, given the other acquisition (which will be disclosed shortly, as soon as it's finalized), my guilty conscience is causing me to sell one of my babies...
The original bike comes without the stem and drop barends. It looks like this:

I found that to be too upright for the kind of riding I was planning to do on it, so I made another stempost and bought the bar-ends. I have the option of switching back and forth...

Yeah, I can't disclose until the deal is finalized so it won't be jinxed!!!
You have to know that it's gotta be a pretty good bike for me to give up the Helios, heh, heh....:innocent:

Why are the newer Dahon bikes heavier? Does Dahon feel the newer heavier bikes offer a better compromise or do they just figure that there are already enough Helioses in the wild to satisfy the demand for a lighter less rigid bike than the Mu? Sometimes I wonder if Dahon changes their lineup so much so that they can cater to more tastes without overextending themselves.
Also, does that 17 pounds include pedals and seat? Just curious because my Carryme is 17 pounds in total and I plan on gradually upgrading to lighter parts, starting with the carbon seatpost I just won on ebay (yeah I know high end aluminum posts are actually lighter, but I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone and eliminate seatpost dust).

My number is 297.

Is it color green?
I think that color will be reserved for us
I will bet it's EvilV's Moulton :)
I also smell Moulton, but EvilV's is on the other side of a big pond, shipping bumps it up something terrible.

On our side, all I see is the stainless steel one but he would have to get rid off all of his bikes to make up the price.

Hmmm... some detective work...
fact SC's wife is in Europe (she still was there on the 17th, today is only the 22nd). UK IS in Europe, isn't it...? She might even be in the UK at some point.
fact EvilV is getting rid of his Moulton at this very instant in time. (credit: doco)
fact SC is alluding to a deal to be finalised. This might refer to price but importantly, packing it up so dearest can bring it with her on the way back. She isn't a cycling enthusiast but SC is very pursuasive.
fact While we guess at Moultons, SC whistles innocently.
fact SC regretfully sells one of his top end folders, no doubt to a) raise funds b) make room c) pacify dearest d) appease conscience e) etc.
Inescapable conclusion: Blazingly obvious.
