Wow, what great trails they have! I did a 22 mile portion of the C&O towpath on Saturday and it was great. Then on Sunday, I did the Curtis and Mount Vernon trails. They were excellent! I can't wait to go back and tackle the W&OD trail and the Capitol Crescent trail.

And D.C. seems to be extremely bike friendly: cars stop for you, even when they have the right of way, and every bus has a bike rack on the front. Three different trails passed right by my hotel (Marriott Key Bridge).

Washington D.C. Is great for biking. I'll be back soon to ride my bike in the MIDATLANTIC section.

How'd you get the bike there?

I drove down with the bike on the old trunk lid rack.

Hey Matty - glad you enjoyed it. The W&OD and 4 mile run is absolutely fun and just goes on and on. The Hampton Inn on Leesburg Pike is right around the corner from the trail and has some nice hotel rates as well. Bring good lights as the night riding is equally fun!

Used to have a loop in Northern Virginia that I would do 2-3 times a week. Basically started on the trail at National Airport. Take the 4 mile run trail to the Custis trail which meets up with the trail along the river at Rosslyn. I would take that all the way to Mt. Vernon, turn around and go back to the airport. Weekends those trails are packed, so speeds are lower, but it's a great system.

For Mt. Biking, there are some great places in NoVa as well. Wakefield and Fountain Head come to mind as the closest while providing decent "Grin" factor.

Fountainhead is awsome, and so are the trails on Quantico. As for road riding in D.C., I think it's all right. The trails are great, but It really makes me miss the Dallas suburb I grew up in. 15 minutes of riding got me in the rural areas there.
