Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. i am converting my 80's Schwinn Suburban contrary to popular approval. Before I start the conversion I figured I'd see how much this boat anchor weighs. 30lbs. The only thing removed so far is the rear brake and I'm running aluminum bullhorns.
It wasn't nearly as heavy as I thought it would be. I've got lighter wheels on the way. it'll probubly be heavy by most peoples standards but I've got a remedy for that . . . pedal harder.:D
How much does the average FG or SS bike weigh?

anthegreat1, greetings from another Rocket City rider. Will you be riding that Suburban in the next Alleycat?

my old conversion went from 30 lbs initially to 24 lbs when it was singlespeed with 2 brakes.

Most of the conversions I see here go 20-25 pounds. My Schwinn world SS conversion weights 26.5 pounds in a 55cm or so frame with drops and 2 b.rakes.
My KHS Turbo conversion with bullhorns, 2 brakes, made of Tange infiniti tubing weighs 21.5 pounds

www.bellovelo.com or ask Matt at Trailhead or Victor at Bikes, Etc. Btw, Victor is in Colorado right now learning to build frames from Yamaguchi.
I sponsored an alleycat last year and will do another when the weather cools a bit. Probably September. I'll let you know.
There's also Critical Mass every month, bike polo on Sundays, group ride around town every Friday night and Vintage bike rides every so often. go to SpringCity.org and subscribe to their e-mail list for more ride notifications.
