The cyclist could have been a bit nicer, all small gesture of offering a bottle of shampoo could have calmed it all down to a plesant chat.

I don't understand why he was off the bike.

He was rude, but from what I saw it looked like she deserved it.

I didn't hear a racial slur. Redneck may be used in a derogatory manner, as he did, but it's not racial. Although it could be considered a class slur in case like this. That's like calling his assumption that she has kid(s) sexist.

Man, if that's rude I hope you wear a suit of armor on a daily basis to fend of the slings and arrows of every day life.

IMO the woman was being deliberately provocative, aggressive and irresponsible (in the manner in which she pulled away with cyclists all around her) his response seemed assertive and he actually tried to be informative about the purpose of the event.

Granted the "redneck" comment may have been a bit over the top, and I'll bet, if pressed, the guy probably regretted it but she was so far over the top that maybe the only way to reach her was to stoop to her level.

I wish more cyclists would realize that when people act out like that pickup driver, they want to engage someone in a war of words. The best way to handle the situation - don't even acknowledge her. Walk right by her as if she didn't exist.

My shot at a transcript:
Woman: Ya'll do this down this damn road every freakin' time.
Cyclist: Why do you think we do this?
Woman: Ah hell I don't know? Find a road with a shoulder or a freakin' park.
Cyclist: Have you heard of the _I can't hear the name_
Woman: No, who cares?
Cyclist: It's a fundraiser for young kids. Ya know how much money we're raising?
Woman: _can't grok this_
Cyclist: Come on, we're doing it for your kids!
Woman: Go home tiny.
Cyclist: See ya redneck, be careful.

Edit: Apparently they don't block vulgarities anymore.

Have any charity rides encouraged/recruited LEO to ride along incognito? Might be amusing.

Angry motorists approaching folks should be aware that some will feel threatened and some will be dangerous nuts. Two dangerous nuts approaching each other can get messy.

Wow. The only thing that kept that big, fat woman from beating up that little man in tights was the camera she obviously knew was trained on her. He's lucky. She probably coulda really hurt him if she hadn't stopped herself. Unless, all those other little men in tights could have helped him out. Notice they didn't do anything to help? They were all afraid, too. It's all about, "Me, me, me."

If it's all about "me, me, me," why are all those "men in tights" riding to raise money for a charity organization?

I think with her it might have been "me, me, me." She was clueless.

This is the reason why I will never buy a pick up truck... I would not like to be catalogued in her class. I think the cyclist, although handling it very well, should have ignored her. Must probably she would have just gone back to the trashy trailer she crawled out of. I learn to ignore people like this by that by watching Cesar Millan's tv show :) (In case u dont know: the show is called the dog whisperer)

Sure sounded like it.
What was the station's purpose in putting the video of the confrontation on their site? Are they trying to upstage the charity event? Are they trying to sensationalize the bike vs car issue?
I don't get it.

I'm sorry. I was only making light of a really bad situation. I agree, wholeheartedly, that charity rides are worthwhile and that people who give of their time gather for a good purpose. They should be able to do their thing unmolested.

Still, people gotta learn how to tone down a confrontation. I don't really know who's at fault in the video. Both redneck and cyclist acted poorly. It could have been dangerous. She seemed so pissed off that she practically drove into a crowd of cyclists. I don't know what the right answer is as to how to address this kind of confrontation. For me, I try to avoid confrontation as best I can. That's just me.

Anyway, I was only trying to joke a bit. No harm intended. Don't track me down with your pickup truck and yell at me, okay?

^^^I speak Okie since thats where I'm from. when said with an illiterate okie drawl "China" becomes "Chinee" or an inhabitant of china or a person from there is "Chineeman". People from Italy are Eye-towel-yuns. Russians are still "commies".

"Chinee" was meant as a racial slur, but are you really surprised?

She was probably having a nic fit and the ride was adding too much time to her 1/2 mile drive to the Indian Store to get smokes.

I live in the town where this happened. I wasn't at the event but I ride on the route that it follows frequently. There aren't any shoulders and the speeds are over 50 (limit 45 or 55) but they are low traffic and people have never given me problems. Most people even slow when we go up hills and wait to pass me so I don't have to take the lane.

I would have just gone right on past her...

I watched the video again. All those guys riding past sure weren't standing up for the cyclist against the big fat redneck woman, that's for sure. So, the "me, me, me" thing still stands.

Do you think things would have been improved if more cyclists stopped, surrounded her and possibly escalated to violence? Yeah right... that would be an improvement.

FTR we have no idea if something happened prior to this. The video only shows her and a cyclist already off of his bike. Where is the rest of the video? Did somehow kick her car? Also, the irony of people in this forum calling someone a redneck and then chastising said person for racial slurs is laughable. REDNECK IS a racial slur. The fact that so many people use it just b/c and "I don't mean it as one!" is no excuse. I am really not sure why it is allowed on this forum.
