I just got back from camping up in Cle Elum. Finally got a chance to ride from Hyak to Cle Elum on the John Wayne trail in good weather. I did the stretch once before on a 2 day ride form Yakima to North Bend, but it was pouring down rain. The trip from Hyak to Easton was spectacular, very scenic. The last leg of the trip was flat, but no shade VERY HOT! all in all it was a great ride.

An observation I made while we drove around on Sunday is how much the area is being built up. Now I do not mind people buying vacation property to get a way to. But it seems silly that these people who live in housing developments find a place to get away to. Then they proceed to turn it into a housing development. The road from Roslyn to Salmon La Sac is dotted with these eye sores. Give it 5 years and the place is going to be dotted with strip malls filled with chain stores and restaurants. Then the cool little restaurants and shops will slowly close up.

Why must they turn these areas into suburban vacation spots?

Yes it's sad. The Chelan area is going the same route. Little development poping up in the middle of the orchards. I don't understand either. Do the people that buy these houses really think they are geting away from it all?

I've ridden that road (Roslyn to Salmon La Sac) a few times these last few years. Usually in late summer early fall and the views are spectacular. But I've always found it odd to see the housing developments on one side of the road and campers & tents on the other. Seems like such a contradiction.

When I go camping, the last thing I want to see is anything remotely resembling suburbia. :rolleyes:
