I was thinking of making some simple white t-shirts with something like this printed on the back:

1) Bike are vehicles, It's the LAW
2) I need 3' on either side ( maybe a picture of a bike with 3' arrows on either side )
3) Smile, you are on camera

Are these already available somewhere? Are they effective?

Humor is the best convincer. I'd try:

(1) I saved 100% on my car insurance by switching to Fuji.
(2) 700 calories per hour.
(3) Smile, you're on camera! :) i do like that one.

:roflmao:

Assuming they could even read it, more likely to trigger an assault than prevent one, in my opinion.

Yes, because most people who harass you due so out of ignorance of the rules/laws.

I tend to agree that those shirts are conforntational, and in fact I disagree with saome of their premises. I do NOT consider my bicycle a vehicle, no matter what the 'law' says. When I am in a car or my motorcyle (the latter is more directly relevant) I have numerous features (brake lights, stall lights, turn signals, etc) that I do not have on my bicycle, and enable me to function in traffic (and no, we are not 'traffic' either! ;) ) much more comfortably than when I am on my Fuji.

I doubt it. I think they harass you because they are buttheadz. You really think a guy who honks his horn and yells 'get off the road' really believes ya don't belong on the roadway? He's seen bikes on the road since he was an embryo, including cops on the roads in many areas. (In fact i think cops using bikes is a great way to increase awareness and treatment of bike-specific concerns on the raodway).

The same guys 'hassling me' on my bike are the ones who growl in my rear view mirror when i refuse to go over 35 in a residential zone in my car, no matter what the posted speed limit is (its usually 40).

Don't forget....when you are riding in your car, you not only have the power to demonstrate courtesy and decency toward cyclists whom you see, you also have the ability to set an example for other motorists to follow.

I don't know about safety messages on t-shirts, but this (http://shop.cafepress.com/design/13602691) is funny.
