first thing to do is have a good gunsmith file off
that thumb hammer, make it more like the old colt
(or was that S&W?) detective. Make it easier to
carry in say jersey pocket? easier draw too.

I'm not disappointed that you felt the need to post it.

I feel bad that you're in an environment where there's a need for it while you do something that you really enjoy (cycling). I carry a gun for a living and I guess the only thing that disappoints me is that I come to the forum to get away from the crappy things that go on. When it starts invading my hobby/obsession I feel like I'm still at work.

That aside, I'm sure we agree on lots of other things. Shimano or Campy?

I like both bikes and guns! So if I carry I have a double thrill.

I have actually considered hunting off my mountain bike based on the amount of game I slip up on when I ride. I've gotten more black bear within pistol kill range on a bike than I have rifle range on foot. Same with deer. I could take down loads of game on my MTN bike all within range of my handgun. I'd be hunting with either my Smith/wesson Model 629 .44 magnum or 657 .41 magnum. Both are quite up to the task of deer and black bear. A few years ago I had a near point blank shot at a black bear that would have easily ent 400+ pounds. He ran immediately upon seeing me but I could have drawn and gotten a real good shot before he was outside of 20 yards.

Shimano works for me on my road bike but on my mountain bikes I may slowly convert to SRAM.

Anybody that purports to hunt with a snub nose will have to be close enough to fire into the open mouth of it's prey or administer a tap wound for sure accuracy. Snub nose pistols are defensive by design, and not very accurate. Carrying a k-38 makes sense, or perhaps a Dan Wesson with 15" retro fit barrel, but a snub nose?

Methinks you betray yourself and your true intentions, which are ego gratification. I hope you don't create a self-fulfilling prophecy where you have to use something like that. You could come out on the short end of the exchange.

Umm, Don, Nobody here is making claims of hunting with a snub nose. What kind of hallucinogens are you taking?

Both firearms I mentioned earlier for my hunting purpose are in excess of 7.5 inch barrel length and I do not even think Smith offers them in snub.

Find another pulpit from which to preach or try actually reading the thread and comprehend what you read.

Sam - nice revolver, but prefer non ported barrel. I'd rather save what's left of my hearing. Wife has a taurus 85UL, amazingly accurate. Also uses +p's.
Take care.

DON D,

I Did not specify ass to its usage in CQ. Merely stated its effectiveness in a given area. I think you should not look so hard for a arguement or a basis to express yourself in a obviously ignorant fashion.
However to address your point on hunting with pistols, I have a Colt Python .357 with a 8" barrel that I would use for hunting. I also have a Kimber .45 auto does not mean I would hunt with it though. I also have the above mentioned Air Lite .22LR and can attest as to its accuracy inside a given range.
Now if you want to talk ballistics fine but to read into a statement and get out of it what you want is picking at best.

Umm, Don, Nobody here is making claims of hunting with a snub nose.

Speaking of comprehension, I think that was my point.

Here in Texas, where concealed carry is legal, we understand quite clearly the purpose of this kind of weapon, and the mindset of the people who carry these things. Just like the barrel on the gun they carry, they're a little to short of good sense to be considered accurate.

Interesting. So anything a person may not like or agree with must be flame bait huh? Actually this topic is in jest as much as seriousness to those of us who do take firearms seriously.

If a topic is not to your liking then ignore it. Simple. Anyone who flames a topic is just showing ignorance.

I also think if you will read Don D's post above you will find that he is the type to come onto a thread and drop subtle little insults in search of kindling a flame fest. It makes him seem only a little more than a troll.

However, you do seem like a nice enough fella Don and I actually kinda like reading some of your stuff. But I will post another thread similar to this over in politics later where the kind of discussion you seem to engage in will be more welcome. A snub nose J-frame is more than accurate up to 7 yards for self-defense. I've shot IDPA "back-up" gun matches with one without any problems.

I gots a question. Serious. No flame. No spam. Serious. OK? I gots three, count um 3 Litespeeds: Road, Touring amd Mountain. I also gots 2 Merlins, made by Litespeed --Do they count? If so, then I gots 5 Ti bikes made by Litespeed. MY question is, Sam, do I need one of them there guns for each of my bikes, or should I just attach a mounting holster to each bike and transfer that there weapon of mass destruction to each bike as it is ridden?

And I wants ta thank thee for posting that pitcher and web site cuz they's some truly awful drivers out there on the roads that needs teachin about bicyclists rights and all. But, Sam, I needs to know, for sure, if I needs a gun for each bike.

:roflmao:

Thanks for the chuckle LJ! With that many titanium bikes in your home you need a perimeter defense sytem. A single or even 5 sub nose pistols will not do the trick. Theives will come from miles away to get at those bikes. I suggest a tripwire system with several claymor mines and some pits with spikes around the outer perimeter. Add in some motion detectors wired to an electronic firing system on a mini gun that will automatically traverse 180 degrees to supply fire into the entire area of approach. If this does not deter them then connect electrical leads to all bikes so that when someone touches one they will be immediately fried.

But while you are riding you will need to consider only a holster for each bike and a single revolver.

Good shootin' tex! Next time a redneck throws a beer bottle at you then blast away ;).

ParamountScapin, This addiction is like nicotine only worse. Too much fun!

Besides, it is interesting to see the reactions of passivists when I post about actually doing something in the interest of self defense. It seems as though more and more folks are willing to place their personal safety into hopes, prayers, and the local authorities. I prefer to make provisions to provide for my own security and my families by whatever means I deem acceptable. Not in an ignorant and careless fashion as many will accuse gun advocates of. But those who make these accusations are normally as ignorant as those who are careless and uninformed.

Random thoughts...

Titanium is like magnesium, it burns. I guess it has to be shreaded to burn, or maybe the barrel is sleeved.
If I carried a gun cycling, there would be a vastly greater incidence of flat tires on vehicles.
I would probably wreck, and blow a hole in my kidney.

What do you have against republicans. The US is a republic you know. Or do you know? There are so many ignants around who think this is a democracy it is no wonder few people in this nation can make intelligent choices when in the voting booth.

But to be completely fair we are a representative republic which has voting practices which make it kinda democratic but 100% democracy is pretty much mob rule which would result in total chaos and probably civil war.

But it is funny that most Americans think we are in fact a democracy. It hows how well our school system is doing in ejukashun.

Hey sam, just out of curiosity, I have a friend who's a gun nut and sometimes I like to engage him in hypothetical conversation.

How hard would it be to duct tape a piece to the drop bars on a road bike? I figure they're already designed to be held like a pistol grip, why not take it one step further. Always thought it'd be hilarious to see someone chasing down deer on a trail firing from the handle bars.

Also, try taping a laser pointer to your bike on the handle bar. Next time some car cuts you off, just ride up behind it and beam the driver, watch him duct when he sees the dot flying around his dash. ;)

Let's not go there... I recall several years ago that a group of teenagers were convicted in the San Jose area because they thought it would be a great idea to drive up and down Hwy 101 shining a laser beam at drivers in the fog. The result was a 3-car pileup and a couple of fatalities. I don't know about you but I'd rather stay away from being associated with such activities.
