I replaced an old heavy forked stem with a taller adjustable stem on a 20+year old mtb that I am converting to a commuter. The top race was locked down by a threaded spanner and then a locknut on top of that. Since the old stem also was the brake cable mount, the LBS gave me a used cable holder that mounts under the top lock nut. Problem is, it didn't leave enough room for the locknut to thread onto. In fact, the top nut wasn't threaded all the way on in the first place. So I removed the spanner, installed the keyed cable mount, and threaded the locknut on. Will this be OK?
