Hi everyone. First time poster here. I figured this forum would be the best in answering my question.

I currently have a 2005 Specialized Allez Expert. (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?arc=2005&sid=05Allez) But lately, I've been thinking about adding clip-on aero bars onto my bike to make for more hand positions and possibly more comfortable journey's. My concern is whether attaching these aero bars onto carbon drop bars is safe to do.

I'm thinking about attaching the Profile Design Lightning Stryke aero bars, if it allows. (372g http://www.profile-design.com/products/aerobars/lightning-stryke-race/)

Let me know what you guys think.

Yes, it's safe. Check with the manufacturer to find the maximum torque you can apply to the carbon bars, and then carefully (preferably with a torque wrench) attach the bars. You probably don't need to torque the bars as much as you think, just enough to keep them from slipping is fine.

+1 on checking with the mfg. specs, but it's not a problem to have them on there.

I don't know if you already bought those aero bars. That design clamps to the stem, and I would recomend buying the Profile Design stem to go with the bars.

Another option is Oval's A711 stem faceplate. I have it on my roadbike and really like it. It works with the Oval R500 stems which are cheap. Total system cost, $25-30 for stem, $65 for faceplate, $30 for arm rests, $30 for extensions. I guess it's not that cheap now that I look at it but I already had the stem, a set of arm rests and extensions so I was over half way there.
