Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a friend who is pushing 325# and is about 6'2". He wants to get into a bike, and I suggested to him a road bike because of the increased ease of pedaling. Well, he is wondering if a road bike is OK for him, because of him living on a dirt road. So, then, I thought about a Cruiser. I don't know much about Cruisers to offer advice, and I'm wondering if anyone could offer any.

I'd suggest a Mountain Bike or Cyclocross bike, personally, tending toward the mountain bike or such. A cruiser will not be the best choice, IMO. Weak wheels, single gear or at most an internal hub gear setup, likely a 3 speed.
I'd personally suggest the Specialized Hardrock Sport......(Big surprise there. ;) ) Put a set of semislicks on it for a mix of pavement and gravel roads and he'll get a nice stable, robust bike.
