Here's a post that might help you...check out this link (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=6657022&highlight=#post6657022) for a video called "Electric Bikes and Wet Weather."

very nice, but my bike doesnt have a (brushless motor its called?) it has a rear wheel with 2 sets of rear gears (1 for pedaling, 1 for the motor- so 1 on the left of the wheel and one on the right) so it uses a chain.

I've been commuting on an e-bike for 2 years. Year around.

There are three things that can get wet: Motor, controller, accelerator.

Brushless hubs are pretty much sealed except for where the wires come out. Put a plastic sealant there.

The controller should be kept dry at all times, otherwise it may fail, cause Hall effect (sputtering) or run full out. It also should not be allowed to overheat, so placement is critical rather than covering it with a plastic bag.

Most accelerators are not waterproof, but can be operated when covered by a plastic bag.

It is probably not wise to operate an e-bike during a downpour, but also don't hide under a tree if there is thunder and lightening.
