South Carolina Governer Mark Sandford is planning a 300 mile bike ride to help promote healther lifestlyes in the state. The Governer owns a bike, but it is in poor condition. No date or location has been confirmed at this time.

Source: The Beaufort (SC) Gazette (sorry,I couldn't find the story online)

This is a great oppurtunity for the Governer to see how poor the roads are for cycling. Funny, the next election is still two years off.

Write to Governor Sanford and compliment him on his interest in and promotion of bicycling

Of the states that I have lived in, SC was not the most bike friendly, but more power to the governor. Every little bit helps.

I damn near passed out when I read the article. He plans on several smaller rides to include as many South Carolinians as he can. He still needs to get a bike. Could Arsbars send one over to the Governor's Mansion to get him started?

Ya, I had pity for the governor too. He surely spoke too soon if he plans to bike three hundred miles and he "doesn't have a bike yet". Hmmm. He may have spoken too soon. Wait till he finishes his first century and has two more to look forward to. SC may be the only state to have a governor walking around bow-legged. "What's wrong guvnaa, ya gots the rickets?"

It might not be too much for an experience cyclist, but for a guy who doesn't even have a bike in ride-able condition...

Even if he chops it up into six half centuries, and does them every other weekend, it will take him twelve weeks to complete.

My hat's off to the man if he lives up to his word.
