Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - North Texas Clydes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Which ride are some of you thinking of doing on Aug. 16? There's the Chili Pepper ride in south Dallas or the Red River Rally in Sherman. The Sherman ride offers a 100 mile route. If I get a little more training, I may be able to make that my first century ride.

I'm undecided. Reviews on the Chili Pepper route aren't too impressive, and the longer routes sound hilly. I don't plan on doing a 100 miles, so that's not an issue right now. I was looking the rides over earlier pondering if there was a good one to ride The Thing on, and/or try to get some fat-tire riders out with me. (That's riders of fat tires, not fat riders of tires, btw).

I may do the Sherman ride, but I may decide I don't feel like driving and just do my hilly 80 mile loop from the house. I'm going to HHH.

Anyone have a link to the Red River ride?
Heck, we could have our own N. Texas Clyde ride.....................
BTW, here's a link to a great ride in September from over in the Texas Regional forum. It's a great cause, but as a Disabled Vet, I'm a bit prejudiced in my opinion. There's a ride website in the thread.

Go to the "Texas Forum" under the regional forums. There's a sticky for "Texas Rides". One of the links there is www.bicycle-stuff.com (http://www.bicycle-stuff.com), which has calendars with all the north Texas rides with links, plus reviews, pictures, etc. The other link there covers the rest of the state, but doesn't have the reviews and pictures.

DOH! How did I miss that one........
Unfortunately,I won't be doing any organized rides in August. (I work on weekends and have to take one weekend off to take my kid to college in Wisconsin). My next ride will probably be the Diabetes ride in....Oct? (I think that's when it is)
Edit: Oct 18 here's the link:

You should send your kid to college a little closer, say cycling distance- like Richland, Eastfield. Ha ha.

Yeah...With what I have to spend driving him and his stuff up there once (let's not talk about tuition), I could buy myself that Surly LHT I've been coveting.:D
The good news is that I only have 1 more year of out of state tuition to pay.:twitchy:

The Chili Pepper Ride is pretty Hilly, and last year it was very unmarked and unorganized. But it's basically the only ride before Hotter Than Hell!

anyone doing the Goatneck tomorrow? Also anyone done the Vernon Burnin? I'm heading to the HNH, but with a goal of the 50mile... we'll see how I do working up to it.
I'm not doing the Goatneck. Next one I'm going to is the Hot Rocks in Rockwall. Reviews aren't great, but it's close.

I'll be at goatneck on my giro 26 recument probably wearing a blue bacchetta jersey. Probably going to be with a few other recumbents and we are going to take off. I'll probably be wheezing on the side of the road after a few miles but it'll be fun while it lasts :D

I'll be at the Goatneck, so I'll look for you. I'll be on a White/Red/Black Trek 1.5 and wearing a yellow Performance jersey... and my buddy will be on a Yellow Trek 1000 wearing a black PI dragon jersey. I'm only doing the 26, but it'll be fun. Hope to see you there!

Yellow Trek 1000. Same bike as mine. What kind of upgrades has he put on it?

Not much yet... just new rims. Since I just got my 1.5, he's been toying with a few things... threadless stem, upgrading the Sora derailleurs. What have you done?

Well finished the 100k at goatneck plus a few miles. I think it is a few miles long anyway but I had a mixup with thinking my dark orange band meant I followed the orange arrow but instead I was supposed to follow the red arrows so had to loop back.
Held a 17mph avg with a max 168 hr for the ride which was pretty good for riding a 50lb bike + gear. Then I went with some other recumbents to lunch, ordered by didn't eat, and then I stopped by subway on the way home and had a veggie on wheat (out of honey oat). *shrug* I guess I just can't eat shredded beef.

I finished the 27 mile route. Averaged 13.4 MPH which is pretty good for me... I've only been riding for a couple months and have had a bug for the last couple weeks so this was my first time on in a while. I could have (and should have) done the 40.

Sounds like you guys did well at the Goatneck. On my bike, I have changed the seat (Specialized comfort plus) and wheelset (mavic cxp22). I have also switched to clipless pedals.
