General Cycling Discussion - Glasses & watery eyes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
When I ride early in the morning, it is between 65 and 70 this time of year. My eyes water, which is a pain with glasses since it is harder to wipe them.
Also, I've noticed my eyes itch more throughout the day and if I rub them, it gets worse. I am suspicious that this is also because of the repeated riding with the wind causing irritation.
Anyway, is there anything I can do? Are there bike riding goggles that offer prescription lenses? I can't imagine anything that would fit over the glasses that wouldn't be bulky and rather dumb looking, but I'm open to suggestions.

No, you don't need goggles....just ordinary cycling shades. What you need are cycling shades with prescription inserts. Or wear contacts and wear any wrap around shades.
I'm with fixer with the contacts thing...
And talk about the weight savings.. :D
contacts are almost as light as air.. ;)

Thanks. Any recommendations? I have never even looked into these things.

check with your "eye doctor" about this. I'm sure they deal with these all the time...
Contacts + sleek sunglasses is about enough protection..
You might be rubbing alergens into your eyes. I just let my eyes water, once the stream of tears starts, I can see clearly.

I use Bolle Vigilantes. They came with 4 sets of lenses and a prescription insert that fits behind the regular lens. Got them from Performance a few years ago. My eye doctor filled the insert for me for $50, but I think Perofrmance will do it for you for less if you send them your Rx when you order them. I can't wear contacts comfortably, so this is my solution.
I got contacts to solve the vision problem and cycling shades to buffer the wind.
a friend of mine can't do the contacts thing for fit as well and uses those Bolle's mentioned above. he swears by them and recommended that I get a pair with the prescriptions to fall back on *just in case*. not a bad idea since you can use the glasses with or without the prescription insert (way better than goggles ya ask me).

Oakley has a prescription plan for (some of)their riding glasses as well as daily wear.
I guess I need to check what is available locally - just so I get some idea of how the various options feel - and then decide what and where to buy. Thanks.
