I was given a Brand New Schwinn Thrasher helmet wih visor today. Its an adult helmet. This is my first ever bike helmet. Question is. Do all bike helmets look funny and large on your head at first? Does it have to grow on you or what? I feel sort of silly wearing it. :o It is a very nice looking helmet when its not on my head. LOL!! Please help. This is no joke.
Yes, and yes. Damn things work really well.

yes but you get used to it. And as late mentione they do work really, really well.
Stevet04II, does the helmet fit you? I mean, is it the right size?
The improtant thing is, the helmet straps firmly on your head and does not move from side-to-side, front-to-back, etc.

I went throught the same thing, not helped by my wife gigling at me in my bike outfit!
I have often felt that my low range Specialized helmet is a bit clunky, but have noticed that the higher dollar helmets (Giro Pnuemo, and TT helmets, specifically) are a bit more form fitting. Not sure if they are any more or less protective, just look cooler on your head. Don't think I'm quite readt to explain a $120 helmet to my wife just yet though... :p

well, cheap helmets usually do look big and bulky on your head.you should just save your money a bit and get a more expensive sleek looking helmet. My favorite are specialized hemets.
More expensive "roadie" helmets (Giro Pneumo for example) are a bit better fitting, less mushroom head
effect. you'll get used to it. As late said they work
really well, only I hope you never have to find out
how well.

I hope you're joking. :(
I won't even take a test ride around the block after making bike repairs without a helmet.
