Hi All,

Excellent forum if I may say. I have been riding for many years, I started out road riding back in the 80's through the late 90's. I road a couple of old Univega road bikes and finally dropped some larger cash for a Cannondale SR800 road bike in the mid 90's. I made the switch to MTB in '97 with the purchase of a Scott Comp. Racing MTB and then purchased a GT Avalanche which is my current ride.

The past couple of years I have been spending about 75% of my time on asphalt and as such have decided to look into getting a hybrid. I have narrowed the field down a little after a ton of research.

I am looking at the Scott Sportster P2 or the Scott Sub 20. They both offer the level of components I am looking for and I am indifferent on rigid vs. suspension (other than the added weight). I am 42, 6'2" and weight about 215. I will be doing some rec. riding about 15-20 per day/3-5 days/week. I am also considering using it to commute (18 miles each way) although the jury is still out on that.

Any thoughts on the riding dynamics of either or other thoughts and experiences. I read a review on the SUB and the rider said it was a little cramped. I did not like the sound of that being 6'2".

Thanks.

Hi Broms, I can't help you much with hybrids (one of the few bikes I don't know much about), but I am certain that there is help out there! You should have kept the old Univegas--they were great machines :) .

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

Hi East Hill,

I loved the old Univega but the frame size would be way to small at this point. I owned it when I was 13 or so. I also forgot to mention my 1980 Mongoose BMX with Tuff Wheel II's which I sold last year on e-bay for $200. Probably not the best commuter.

Thanks for the welcome.
