Hi there, I ride a Trek soho 2 with the above mentioned hub - Just curious, my ride is mostly on flat terrain and I use mainly the 7th gear (sweat!) - would a bike with more gears require more pressure on the pedals when in higher gear let's say 12th gear? - If I am fully used to going in the 7th, I may go for another bike eventually. The lower gears are fully obsolete already.:p That said, the Nexus does work smooth!

The pressure on the pedals depends entirely upon the gear ratio you've got and the size of the sprocket attached to the hub. The gear ratios are usually published for different hubs. If you want a higher top gear, your best bet would be to increase the size of your chainring up front or decrease the size of the cog in back.

That said, it's very possible that you are a grinder. It is not good for your knees to pedal around in the highest gear at all times. Try to keep your cadence (speed of your feet on the pedals) at least 60 rpm at all times and ideally around 90 rpm while cruising. Your knees will thank you for it in the long run.

Is that sweat (Salty fluid secreted by sweat glands) or sweet (Pleasing to the mind or feeling)?

Ahh, Sturmcrow must be a spinner! To each his own. Personally I hate spinning, I like a more sedate 30-60RPM. Increase the front sprocket size or decrease the rear sprocket size. You can also slow down and enjoy the scenery. That cool breeze from speed helps tho...

As Torque1st suggested change the rear cog or the front chainring if you want different gearing.

You can change the front chainring on your bike.

Depending on how worn the chain is, you could also chain the cog that is on the hub [ I did both when I changed the gearing on my Nexus 7 speed hub ].

I'd say look at Sheldon Brown's online gear calculator. Figure out what you got vs what you'd like to have [ gearing wise ].

Thanx for the replies; don't wanna ruin my knees (sweat=sweet)
