Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I couldn't get into the NFL 08 thread because, well, college football is better.
Just got my season tickets for Cal football !!! http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/166/woohoo.gif

Is anyone else excited about the new season? What's your team?
Just to stir things up:
Teams I love to hate: Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, Texas.
Really annoying guys: Charlie Weis, Mack Brown, Tommy Tuberville, Les Miles.
Perennially overrated: Notre Dame, Ohio State. (OK, maybe Cal too)

Go Bears!
College football is great. However the BCS kills it for me. But the football game itself is great.

My father and I generally get season tickets but, sadly, I don't think he's up for it this year. He says he's put off by Tedford's unwavering dedication to Dongshore but I think he just doesn't want to admit he hates making the climb to Memorial Stadium. Old man.

I'm just gonna point out that Florida worked you that first year. I'll see your Wells and raise you one Tebow for the repeat.

Thanks for pointing that out. How about that Michigan game last year?
I agree with you, Tebow is a stud. I do believe Chris Wells will have a longer football career, though.

As much as I want to hate USC, I always look forward to seeing them Song Girls.

Especially when Penn State comes on down there to play a Texas based team in a bowl game. Always Number 1 in my book.

A while back (early 90's), my brothers and I got on Huskers field and started playing football on it and we meet Tom Osborne. He was pretty cool.
Football North and South
Planning for the fall football season in the South is radically different from up North. For those who are planning a football trip in the South, here are some helpful hints.
Women's Accessories:
NORTH: Chap Stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
SOUTH: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, waterproof mascara, and a fifth of bourbon or a six-pack concealed somewhere. Money not necessary - that's what dates are for.
NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
SOUTH: High school football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
Campus Decor:
NORTH: Statues of founding fathers.
SOUTH: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.
Homecoming Queen:
NORTH: Also a physics major.
SOUTH: Also Miss America.
Heroes:
NORTH: Rudy Guliani
SOUTH: Snake Stabler, Bo Jackson, Archie Manning, Peyton Manning
Getting Tickets:
NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus and purchase tickets.
SOUTH: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus and put name on waiting list for tickets.
Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:
NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the game, because they have classes on Friday.
SOUTH: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few hung over students that might actually make it to class.
Parking:
NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the campus for game parking.
SOUTH: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.
Game Day:
NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
SOUTH: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots up north who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never broadcast from their campus.
Tailgating:
NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio station with truck tailgate down.
SOUTH: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking is accompanied by live performance by "Dave Matthews Band," who come over during breaks and ask for a brew or hit off bottle of bourbon.
Getting to the Stadium:
NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.
SOUTH: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it becomes the state's third largest city.
Concessions:
NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
SOUTH: Drinks served in a plastic cup, with the home team's mascot on it, fi lled less than half way with soda, to ensure enough room for bourbon.
When National Anthem is Played:
NORTH: Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.
SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, (who normally can't carry a tune) sing along in perfect four-part harmony.
The Smell in the Air After the First Score:
NORTH: Nothing changes.
SOUTH: Fireworks, with a touch of bourbon.
Commentary (Male):
NORTH: "Nice play."
SOUTH: "Dam*it, - tackle him and break his legs."
Commentary (Female):
NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
SOUTH: "Dam*it , - tackle him and break his legs."
Announcers:
NORTH: Neutral and paid.
SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.
After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
SOUTH: Fans stay until the last score over the other team, then leave with the crowd screaming and hollering about how great their team is! Then another rack of ribs goes on the smoker. While somebody goes to the neares t liquor store for more bourbon and brews, and planning begins for next week's game.

Woohoo, football starts this week!!!! http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/166/woohoo.gif
A lot of teams from the bigger conferences like to pad their schedules, and start their seasons in particular, with easy out-of-conference games. But there are some good games to watch in Week 1. Here are some of the good or interesting games this week:
Alabama at Clemson
USC at Virginia
Tennessee at UCLA
Michigan St. at California
Utah at Michigan
Illinois at Missouri
Washington at Oregon
Fresno St. at Rutgers
The Week 1 Wussy List. These guys on the right would rather pay some 1-AA team to give them an easy home game than schedule a challenging, exciting game for the fans, or god-forbid, go on the road for an OOC game.
Charleston Southern at Miami
Youngstown St. at Ohio St.
Coastal Carolina at Penn St.
Georgia Southern at Georgia
Appalachian St. at LSU
Eastern Washington at Texas Tech
Western Michigan at Nebraska
Western Illinois at Arkansas
Chattanooga at Oklahoma
LA Monroe at Auburn
Northern Arizona at Arizona St.
Fall is the best time of year! The beautiful colors, the warm afternoons with the beautiful late afternoon light, and college football!

We are happy with a wussy first game. Except it's not really a wussy game. Our QB has a grand total of 2 passes in college football games.
AS is gonna score some points tho. They were DivII national champs. Their QB is really good.

I'm sure LSU's coach doesn't have to remind his Tigers what happened in the Big House last year.
BTW, how come LSU gave their QB the gate?
