I currently on a mountain bike that won't shift into gear #7.. well, it sometimes shifts... I'll switch it into 7 and a few minutes later when I really start to grind the pedals it then jumps into that last gear, nearly throwing me over the handlebars.

Any ideas?

check the washer that hold cable to der.I had this on my road bike and it was positioned just enough where it would hold the der.from releasing
